On May 31 every year, the world observes World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) that is promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO). The objective of observing World No Tobacco Day is to reduce tobacco consumption which can lead to deadly diseases like cancer and early death. Individuals, non-profit organisations and public health organisations actively participate in making this day a success by distributing placards and displaying posters with the latest information on the ill-effects of consuming tobacco and smoking. Some of the other topics include smoking and lung diseases and current concepts in management of lung cancer.

World No Tobacco Day primarily focuses on encouraging users to refrain from tobacco consumption and its related products for a period of at least 24 hours.

World No Tobacco Day, highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. Tobacco kills nearly six million people each year, of which more than 600 000 are non-smokers dying from breathing second-hand smoke. For World No Tobacco Day 2014, we are calling on countries to raise taxes on tobacco.

Thanks for the post Manu. Tobacco is universally considered harmful for health. Be it in chewing form or smoking. The present cenrtal Govt has decided to increase further levies on tobacco to discourage its consumption. As we all know how it affects the vital organs leading to untimely death.
World tobacco day is observed to educate people regarding its deadly side effects also reduce its intake.

Thanks for this post, Manu😊
Tobacco is so poisonous that it should be prevented totally...
But it's painful that people still smoke, though knowing its side effects very much..

Thanks Manu for the information

I know a person, he knew he had a cancer still he didn't stop tobacco as well as drinking, doctors had warned him but no use. Now he is suffering from mouth cancer, all teeth are removed and he can only eat food in the juice form.

I mean to say people don't listen, they think nothing will happen to them, it's a very sad situation.

Manu ...I really appreciate your efforts to give good information on socially relevant subjects time and again . Thank you !

WHO has designed this poster "Raise tobacco tax" for use around the world during this year's World No Tobacco Day campaign This is the theme of this year's No Tobacco Day !. This theme becomes the central component of the tobacco related agenda for the year following. For World No Tobacco Day 2014, WHO is calling on countries to raise taxes on tobacco as research shows that higher taxes are especially effective in reducing tobacco use and preventing young people from starting to smoke.

World No Tobacco Day, highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. Tobacco kills nearly six million people each year, of which more than 600 000 are non-smokers dying from breathing second-hand smoke !

The goal is to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco use across the globe and draw global attention to the global use of tobacco and the negative health effects of tobacco products!

World No Tobacco Day is acknowledged by military installations world-wide. The Department of Defense is committed to reducing tobacco use in the Armed Forces as it strives for exceptional health, fitness and readiness for active duty members, as well as health and fitness for family members, retirees and DOD workers.
