Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt says too many action roles in Hindi-language movies have ruined his back.
He needs regular physiotherapy to manage the pain, the actor told Indian newspapers in interviews published on Tuesday.
"After doing so much action over many years, my back has gone. I'm in pain," he told The Times of India newspaper.
In a separate interview with the Hindustan Times newspaper, Dutt said doctors had detected a slipped disc in his spinal cord.
"I go to Nanavati hospital every day for physiotherapy," he told the paper. "Hopefully, my back should heal and I won't have to go in for surgery."
A popular actor known for macho roles in more than 100 movies since his debut in 1981. Dutt plays a police officer chasing down a Mumbai mob in the new action thriller, "Shootout At Lokhandwala."
Dutt is also awaiting a court sentence for illegal arms possession. He was convicted last November and is awaiting sentencing for unauthorized possession of three assault rifles and a pistol, allegedly supplied by a suspect in the 1993 Mumbai bombings that killed 257 people.
Dutt has been out on bail since 1995 after serving 18 months in jail following his arrest and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison. He was acquitted of a more serious charge of conspiracy in the bombing case.
