| Calling the youth: VJs Sophie and Ranvijay with John Abraham | | Abhishek Bachchan, Youth Icon? Hmmm. We're not entirely sure why, but he's definitely in some hallowed company.
MTV has just announced its nominations for this year's Youth Icon and apart from AB Jr, competitors for the title include Orkut, Rang De Basanti, Multimedia Cell Phone and You! Yep, you read it right. Either those peeps at MTV are on drugs or they've really caught on to what the youth fancies.
But we think John Abraham would be a better nominee, no? What with his love for fast bikes, gorgeous women and youth friendly personality et al.
Did the MTV peeps figured he was a better bet to announce the nominations than actually be part of it? Boo to them for that.
So who do you think will be the Youth Icon this year? We're placing our bets on Orkut, so send us your choice at hitlist@mid-day.com.

| | Beat you to it: Zayed Khan | Tailspin: Amitabh Bachchan | | To his credit, we know Zayed Khan has been growing his hair long for a while now (and we're not entirely happy with his grizzly look), but his ponytail does look similar to Big B's hair in Cheeni Kum, no?
Also, we think it's a super cool way to beat the heat, wot?
| Soham's lucky mascot
| | Lucking it out: Soham Shah | A little birdie tells us that Malaika Arora Khan is Kaal director Soham Shah's lucky mascot (even though she's done only an item song in his debut film).
So much so, that he recently shot for an ad film with her for a furniture brand.
Says Soham, "Malaika is my lucky mascot. This is the first time we're working together since Kaal.
She's highly professional and always cooperative. As always, she adds a lot of glamour and class to whatever she does.
This ad film is no less."
When asked what's new on the film front, he says, "I'm working on a project that will begin by the end of this year."
We're assuming Malli will have something to do in it?
| What's luck got to do with it? Malaika Arora Khan | | Comic relief for Lara, Koena | Koena Mitra has been getting some great offers for comedy films after Apna Sapna Money Money, the actress says.
"I guess nothing succeeds like success, and after Apna Sapna became a hit, I've been flooded with roles in comedy films from people like Sanjay Gupta, Subhash Ghai and Raj Kanwar.
I'm happy that my sex symbol image is turning into a more serious one. Now I want to do a kick-ass action film as I've been learning Tai Chi and kickboxing for a month!" says Koena.
| Unsatisfied: Lara Dutta & nbsp; & nbsp; I WANT MORE; Koena Mitra |
As for Lara, she says she's not satisfied with her career so far and wants to do bigger and better work.
"I'll never be satisfied, but yes, I'm much more content and secure. Today, I know the kind of work I want to do and the people I want to work with.
I've realised that I'm a good comic actress. Both Bhagam Bhag and Partner have taught me a lot about the genre, and I am getting scripts that have roles like the ones Sridevi and Juhi Chawla used to do.
That's great as not too many actresses can carry off the comic genre," says Lara.
It's better to laugh your way to the bank than play tragedy queen, no?

| Close shave for Duggu | | Still standing: Hrithik Roshan | Hrithik Roshan met with an accident near Panvel on Sunday night, when he was returning to Mumbai after shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha Akbar.
His prized Mercedes S Class, one of only two in India, was damaged in the accident that happened around 11 pm.
Says Rakesh Roshan, "The accident happened while Hrithik was on his way back home from Karjat.
A Maruti Zen hit his car from behind, which in turn was hit by a Bolero behind it.
So all three cars were caught in the collision.
I think the driver of the Zen was in high spirits. Fortunately, nobody was injured. Hrithik was home safe and sound by 11.30 pm." | |
