I'm pleased that 'Doli...'

has seen the light of day' Aroona Irani speaks on her latest offering and the controversies surrounding it Jas was excited to play a father but on the first day of the shoot he developed cold feet
AROONA Irani has much reason to smile about. After having received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award for her contribution to cinema, her much-awaited project 'Babul Ki Bitiya Chali Doli Sajake', (Sahara One) is finally on-air after several months of deliberations and replacements. "I am so pleased that the serial has seen the light of day.
Its topic is very close to my heart because ever since I saw the film 'Sujata' I have felt strongly for the issues of a girl child; " says Aroona.
When asked why she didn't cast Sangeeta Ghosh, allegedly her favourite actor, she replies, "Don't Sangeeta and Barkha (the protagonist) carry different images? I couldn't have imagined Sangeeta playing a servile, docile girl even in my wildest dreams ! She's a fire-brand. She had done docile roles before 'Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand' but even then her fiery streak could not be concealed! Instead, Barkha Bisht fits the requirement of a doe-eyed girl with a 'lost' look on her face. That made me decide that she's just right to play the protagonist." On the several replacements that have happened for the role of the protagonist's father, Aroona says, "Ideally, I would have liked some veteran actor to play the father's role. But, today the scenario is such that we are prompted to cast the suave, younger guys to play these roles. Trust me, it's difficult to convince them for the same! Jas (Arora) was excited to play a father but on the first day of the shoot he developed cold feet after getting into the costume and having shot a few scenes. I had to tell him that if he was so uncomfortable about playing a father, it was in his best interest to do a rethink." On the acting front, Aroona is happy to be facing the camera for 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii' (Star Plus) after a span of seven years during which she wasn't offered good roles in Bollywood. "I have no complaints about it. I understand that now people want to see glamorous faces in every role," she says with a laugh adding "I would still love to do some naughty roles like I did in 'Haseena Maan Jaayegi'. In that sense, the youth in me is very much alive!"
