In a pioneering move for Colombia, Bogota/Cali-based prodco 64A-Films has teamed with Indian studio Yash Raj Films to remake Bollywood romantic comedy "Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl."

SEE MORE: Cannes Film Festival

The untitled film adaptation will roll in the Colombian cities of Bogota, Cali and Cartagena, with 60%-to-70% of pic's central action taking place in Cartagena, said 64A-Films producer Diego Ramirez.

Pic turns on a gigolo who seduces then robs women in different cities until before three victims hire a beautiful poor girl to seduce and rob him. But the wannabe seductress and thief fall in love.

With a $2.5 million budget, finance will include international co-production coin and Colombian equity, using local tax-breaks. Producers will apply for Ibermedia and Colombia's Pro-Imagenes film funds.

One of Colombia's most ambitious film and TV production houses, 64A-Films partnered last year with Jason Gurvitz's Green Dog Films in L.A. to co-produce a five-pic slate of commercial genre movies. Madremonte, as the initiative isknown, attracted 487 project apllications which the producershave now whittle down to 20 potential movies, Ramirez said at Cannes.

Teaming with Elena Manrique's Madrid-based Film Fatal, 64A-Films already produced a musical romantic comedy, Chus Gutierrez's "Ciudad Delirio," the biggest Colombian B.O. hit of 2014 so far, notching up 300,000 tix sales and counting. Media Luna is selling "Ciudad" at Cannes.

"Colombian film audiences have started to ask for further film genres beyond violence and social dramas. Romantic comedies are an answer. It is only a matter of market," Ramirez sai

Buying the right of Ghajini (Tamil) was cheaper option than buying the right of Memento.
