Touted as a fun show for families, Star Plus's new offering, Mum Tum
Aur Hum premieres on September 19 at 8 pm.
This daily is a game show produced and directed by Siddhartha Basu
and Anita Kaul Basu, makers of the grandfather of all quiz shows,
Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Mime time
At a media meet held at the Star Plus office yesterday, the channel
feels that instead of a soapy saga, the time is right for a game
show to coincide with kids' dinner time.
The daily is anchored by Shruti Seth along with Nanoo the clown, who
does a mime act. Nanoo is played by Rajendra Sharma, a National
School of Drama graduate, who has worked extensively with children
and the art of mime.
Challenging format
According to Anita Kaul Basu, "All this while, we at Synergy
Communications did formatted shows; it was a challenge to do an
original game show which involved mother and child in the age group
of eight to 11."
The game has the mother and child think together, play together and
be totally in sync with each other. "It's not just a game show but
involve a lot of emotions as well. There are several moments when
the mother takes the child for granted and is shocked with the
child's replies," says Sheth.
Celeb quotient
The show is shot in New Delhi and plans are on to shoot it at
various metros and with celeb mothers and their kids.
A preview of an episode revealed that it had a dose of humour,
emotion and surprise and should prove to be a relief from the soapy
sagas. Incidentally, at the same hour it's the Balaji serial Kaisa
Ye Pyar Hai on Sony, while it's Reth on Zee.
How Mum Tum Aur Hum is played
All the games are played against the clock between two mother-child
teams, who are given separate tasks to be done.
There are three rounds — the communication round, the buzzer round
and jackpot round. Round 1 is played in gaming areas like the
kitchen, living room and garden. Round 2 is buzzer bajao, where
games are played on the buzzer, while Round 3 is the jackpot.
The prizes
Every participant wins a take-home prize with the jackpot prize
being a family holiday to destinations like Sydney, Dubai,
Mauritius and Maldives.
