Question...is there really that much of a difference between their careers? Rani's peak lasted about 2-3 years from 2004-2006 and Kareena's 4 years from 2007-2011. 2012 was a bad year for Kareena and 2013 was the end of the road. The ends of their careers are both similar and for the exact same reason too...one stuck too much to YRF/Khans and the other to Dharma/Khans, rejecting good roles in the process.

But Kareena's downfall started when she was 32-33. I still wouldn't rule her out. Rani's films stopped creating any buzz 2007 onwards. LCMD, TPTM and DBH were terrible flops. Kareena's may have reached top with JWM only but she was in limelight before that too. KKK and Ash were getting big projects even when their films flopped early in their careers. DP also peaked with Cocktail, but she was also very much in demand before that. Major difference is that Rani almost disappeared at 27-28 while others downfall started at 32-33.

Also don't know whether it was a conscious decision to do one film per year. If so, it backfired badly and most of them were female oriented too.

Correction everyone..Rani turned 30 in 2008..So she also peaked at 27-28..
