Theres no mention of radha in ved vyaas mahabharata.
She is mentioned as one of the gopi in vishnu puranas...
In the later text and folk tales radha has heavy presence...Some ppl regard her as laxmi's incarnation but tht is not true.
Radha was probably his gopi n a devotee of Krishna...her deep devotion for Krishna exhalted her position as his chief gopi and lover.
We hav no evidence to prove weather she actually existed since vyaas didnt mention her.

In Mytho it is always advisable to check the story in other Puranas too.
Radha & Krishna exists in Golok, it is clearly mentioned in Devi Bharavat.
There are 2 approches.
1- Look for proofs & evidences everywhere & clearly discard things which doesn't have have any. One can even say so & so doesn't exists as per research done by a scholar.
2- Since it is a Mytho, stories are from Puranas, which mentions Many Kalpas, Maha Yugas. Sat Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapar Yuga & last is Kali Yuga. If any evidence of a Sat Yuga event is not found today in our modern times, do we think such event has never happened? Vishnuji's various avatars that were part of Sat Yuga & Treta Yuga, can they be said to be a mere fiction? If Radha is a fiction, then what about Lakhs of devotees who can connect to Radha with Krishna & get a divine feeling. Is it a fiction too?
A devotee's approach is at Spiritual level. If they can feel the connection between their aaradhya & them, while remembering, praying to them, then their aaradhya really exists. So Radha does exist, she is real. Devi Bharavat even has a mantra of Radha.
One should not see a Mytho as just a documented script supported by evidences but there is much more to it. The Spiritual teachings, connections can not be documented. They are to be experienced & felt. Those who feel the connection are so engrossed in that divine feeling, are least bothered about evidences & proofs.

Mythology:
1. a body of myths, as that of a particular people or that relating to a particular person
2. myths collectively.
3. the science or study of myths.
4. a set of stories, traditions, or beliefs associated with a particular group or the history of an event, arising naturally or deliberately fostered: the Fascist mythology of the interwar years.

"Myth" refers to colorful stories that tell about the origins of humans and the cosmos. Attitudes towards myth vary greatly. Some regard it as a source of spiritual growth, while others see only falsehood. Some see in myth the distinct character of particular cultures, while others see universal patterns. Some regard myth as "contemporary" and "alive", while others think of it as "ancient" and/or "dead."

History:
1. the branch of knowledge dealing with past events.
2. a continuous, systematic narrative of past events as relating to a particular people, country, period, person, etc., usually written as a chronological account; chronicle: a history of France; a medical history of the patient.
3. the aggregate of past events.
4. the record of past events and times, especially in connection with the human race.
5.a past notable for its important, unusual, or interesting events: a ship with a history.

Many events in MB indicates it's not only History.
Radha existed, there is another mention about Brhmaji getting Radha & Krishna married. It was shown in Ekta's MB. That event was at a different plane.

Radha was one of gopi's of krishna in vrindavan... she was elder to krishna... and she is considered as krishna's lover.. and plays a very important role in his life...
books say there was a time when lord krishna's life was about to end... and only if one of gopi's can save his life.. to do so krishna had to drink the water after washing the feets of one of them... but as he is god if anyone would wash her feet in lord's water.. she'll go to hell .. so promptly radha came forward and did the task..
also some say that radha was actually flute of lord krishna..
but in north india most people believe.. krishna - radha are two names which cannot be separated from each other.. krishna is always there where there is radha
so there are many concepts about radha.. and she did exist... there is a radha mandir in barsaana near vrindavan...

and rukmani was actually incarnation of laxmiji.. and she marrries lord krishna who is vishnu

@Mnx
Beautifully worded. Yes, when people have felt her presence, she definitely has to exist!

@lastdesire Radha is eternally Krishna's beloved, and Rukmini is the avatar of Mahalakshmi to marry Krishna. As explained wonderfuly by the others.

Radha Rani or Radha Devi or Simply Radha was childhood friend of Krishna. They used to play together, sit together in forests on swings , visited each other's house but that was in childhood. She wanted to marry krishna but could not because he was a Prince and left for Mathura in Teenage. She still adored him selflessly and that exalted her position as his beloved.
I don't know any mythology further on this topic but that's the highest kind of love when you love someone from heart without expecting anything.
On divine side...
radha and krishna are param purush and parama prakarti, both makes universe.
