Astha's character is showing the much needed improvement of being discreet while trying to find out about things..and she is not going and announcing her findings. She is connecting the dots and until she finds out the whole truth she will not spill the beans now. She has definitenly become smarter.
Loved , absolutely loved the scene where Astha covers Anjali will the shawl and blows her a kiss ...its a silent salute to the all enduring power of womanhood...the bonds of mother, daughter and daughter in law...all seen in the shadows and reflections seen in Anjali and Astha. They both are MIL and DIL, but both are someones daughters too. And the pain of missing Jyoti is there in both of them. Astha feels for Anjali..she is the only one who feels for Anjali rather. Because she now knows the true heart of Anjali..soft, warm and goodhearted, hiding behind the insensitive and harsh mask that NA has put on her. Astha is trying to make Anjali come out of the mask...only Anjali and Anjali herself can release her from this cage. No one can liberate a woman if she herself does not want it.
If Anjali wants to be liberated from the bondage , she would have, and she can still find a way.
And that is indirect question of Shlok. Though it appears he does not know NA's truth and Anjali's truth...his question is very very valid. How and why should a mother give more priority to anything or anyone else other than her children? What is Anjali's majboori that her children feel alone and "anatha"...even in her presence. In a way Shlok is asking...why does Anjali tolarate NA's abuse.
Whats the reason..and Astha does not have an answer. She knows Anjali is being abused.
But she does not know why Anjali takes it, why does she not protest..why does she not come out in the open and announce that she loves her children to bits but is being subdued by her husband?? And that is still a mystery to us. There is something that NA has a hold on...that he is using as a threat against Anjali. Is it that he has threatened to harm her parents if she does not comply..or is there another child Pooja somewhere that will be harmed if Anjali does not co-operate . Or is it plain old brainwashed woman who really feels that her life is at the feet of her husband...so she needs to tolerate.
Anjali said the other day that she also had tried to change the ways of the household like Astha is trying to do today but failed. Why did she fail...what caused her to give up and live this life of subservience??
Again, touching to see the brothers concerned and desperate to find their sister. Very lovely.
Hope they stand up for Jyoti.
