[Either we really are in an exciting period, or our expectations have been dulled so much that screaming from Jalal, Jodha, or Maham seems exciting. At least, borrowing from Chisti Saheb, "Waqt badal raha hai." Much eloquent and insightful analysis has already been posted here, so I'll only offer the following few observations: ]
1. Jodha still does not recognize the contribution she and SM made to the MU. She also has no appreciation of what she put Jalal through, as she accuses him of having acted "bina soche samjhe".
2. Both guroor and fear are driving Jodha. There has been some debate in the forum if she was being driven by guroor or fear. Well, in recent dialogs, she has resolved the matter for us: it's both! She said, "If I had returned to Agra with him, that would have diminished by gaurav [=shaan]". She also said that she is afraid of having to face similar treatment in future.
3. HB is a great MIL, cold mother, and truly lousy investigator. She alerted Maham to her suspicion, leaving ample opportunity for the cave to be sanitized and evidence disappeared. Unbelievable. What you really want in such a situation is a crack unit of soldiers who surround the place without notice and make sure that everything and everyone is secured and looked into. She should have consulted Atga and waited for Jalal.
4. Shehnaz's mystery remains, but a few possibilities eliminated. All of us have been wondering about the mystery of Shehnaz ever since the ashram in Mathura . By now she has met Jalal, observed his personal valor up close, learnt that he is the Shehenshah of the Mughal Empire, and yet her behavior has remained quite normal. This seems to eliminate a few possibilities that were doing rounds. We can reasonably guess that she does not have a past complication with Jalal or a grudge against the Mughal Empire.
5. Finally, my big point. I was greatly disappointed with Jalal in his interrogation of MA.
I may be going against this forum's mood, but yes it is true that I was greatly disappointed with Jalal in his interrogation of MA.
He started out on a very good note by announcing that they were there as Shehenshah and Wazir-e-Aliya, and not as a son and Badi Ammi. (Of course, otherwise why meet in DEK; he could have just gone to her room and put his head on her shoulders!)
However, MA's outburst succeeded in hijacking and redefining the narrative. By the end of it, Jalal was only talking about the relationship as mother and son. He was moping around about his taqdeer, how he has lost a mother, how she has lost a son, etc. He regained Emeperor like mood only when SB reminded him to act how Jodha Begum would have wanted him to act.
Incredibly, he failed to follow up on MA's statement that she had hatched other conspiracies before this one. Even the most clueless investigator would have been shocked out of his seat and insisted on knowing about those other conspiracies, details like what was involved and who was involved. He ignored all that to focus on the dissolution of the mother-son trust and relationship. (Could it be that there are only a few good writers available and this time they were tasked to work on MA?)
Equally unbelievable, she "lost her son" but can keep her power. Obviously, a Wazir needn't be someone trustworthy and reliable?! What harsher punishment could possibly await a traitor than not being addressed as "Badi Ammi"? :) This tells us that he saw and felt the betrayal in only personal terms, "how could my Badi Ammi do this to me and Jodha Begum?" The fact that a court official had deceived the Shehenshah, forced others in the kingdom to deceive him, and lied to him just moments ago carried no weight.
Recall that Jalal had just threatened the poor spy with instant death if he even tried to shade the truth. On the other hand, MA had actually lied outright. Jalal should have recognized that at the very least she was no longer trustworthy as Wazir.
So a big time failure for Shehenshah.
