Is anybody else feeling uneasy with the Shiv/Parvati parallel?

Please do not misunderstand me. I am not making this topic with the intention of hurting anyone's religious beliefs. It's because of my RESPECT for religion that i'm posting this in the first place.

I just managed to catch up with yesterday's episode and can't seem to shake this feeling. The thing is, i'm feeling a little uncomfortable with the way in which the show is drawing parallels with Shiv/Parvati in PaRud's story.

Why?

The answer is simple... because Paro and Rudra are HUMAN, not deities - and should therefore be treated as such.

By trying to incorporate the Shiv/Parvati mythology into PaRud's story at any given opportunity, it's almost as if the writers are trying to portray them as Shiv/Parvati reincarnates... and that is some dangerous ground they are treading on. It has the potential to anger many a viewer who will not accept fictional characters in this light - and rightly so if you ask me.

There is nothing wrong with having two leads whose characteristics are loosely inspired by those they were named after but that is kinda where the similarities should end.

The thing is, the creative's have handled this well in the past. Firstly, when Paro said she wished her husband was named after her Bolenaath, and secondly when PaRud discussed Rudra as the destroyer of evil and made reference to the scar/third eye. Those were subtle instances, that gave us a sense of foreshadowing and also some insight into Rudra's character and PaRud's equation. I liked those scenes.

But the one-legged penance and now the poison seem to have taken it a step too far. Not to mention the illogical way in which both were handled. Some might say that it was needed to move the story forward - and that is how i tried to view it too - but one can't deny that both these events could still have been worked into the storyline without the obvious connection to Shiv/Parvati.

I know i'm putting my neck on the line by posting this but i'm hoping that my intentions will not be misunderstood. Maybe i'm being too sensitive or maybe i do have a valid point. I dunno. But i'm curious to know...

Is anybody else feeling uneasy with the literal depiction of mythology in the show?

Oh have you? Sorry, i haven't seen it.

I don't know about disapprove, but yes i do feel they need to be careful about what they are showing. They may end up hurting the religious sentiments of viewers if they don't handle the connection with care.

Yes it's the writers that i'm talking about. Subtle references are good but literal references is going a little far i think. Especially if the execution lacks logic too.

This is what i'm talking about, the writers could end up offending viewers with the parallels. Subtlety is key... they can do it, that they've shown us already.

I'm glad. 😆

Just feel a little uneasy with the writers mixing mythology with fictional characters to such an extent.

I actually agree with you. Most times when I read potentially controversial posts such as this, I tend to remain silent even if I agree with the POV. However after reading your post I felt compelled to voice my support. There is a fine line between drawing loose parallels and having fictional characters act in specific ways that strictly resemble deities. Thus far, the creatives had being doing a good job, but as you pointed out, the last two instances of the thapasya and the poison scenes, it feels as if they've stepped a little bit over the line.
Also, consider this. Earlier, it was PaRud's innate personality traits that made the audience loosely link them with their namesakes. It was a natural connection. PaRud would just BE and the audience would themselves see connections. Now, it is shown that the characters (well Parvati at least) has decided that they are "exactly" like Bholenath and Ma Parvati and MUST behave in accordance with the nature of the deities. She has stopped acting based on what SHE thinks is right and stopped solving problems the way SHE may have earlier. Instead, she finds her solutuions in mythology. "Ma Parvati behaved in this way therefore I must behave in the same way." That seems to have become Paro's thought process.

I understand that your post is not meant to bash the show, it's creatives, or any religious belief. That is in fact why I felt the need to vocalize my support. I agree with you, however, I feel that even the best of shows are never consistent. Unfortunately, my expectations when watching a tv serial are extremely low haha. If this was a piece of literature, I would take this analytic approach, but I feel that because we are in the realm of Hindi serials, we must be prepared to lower out expectations and accept the fact that there will be inconsistencies. Despite that, RR has being doing a surprisingly great job so far and proving to be quite a different type of serial, hope it lasts.

Lastly, to those that are self proclaimed diehard PaRud fans, please note that having an opinion on the show, does not make us lesser fans. In fact, if anything we love the show just as much if not more than you bc we are expecting more from our beloved show, actors, creators. Responding to this or similar posts by saying "well maybe you should stop watching the show" is extremely immature and shows that you have completely missed the point the author of such posts is trying to make. I sensed that this post may receive such ill-thought comments and felt I must support this author.

Can't wait for tonight's episode!
