I personally would prefer to date someone who is perhaps less polite (though who is by no means disrespectful) and who does not put me on a pedestal. Being put on a pedestal makes me feel like they must have an overly hyped-up view of me as a person that is not how I actually am. And I get turned off and intimidated by the feeling that I could not live up to the mental image they have of me. Whereas if someone treats me more "normally" and with less adulation, it's easier to handle the thought of getting closer to them and of getting to know them better. And as I've said, I have a weakness for mystique... so a guy being somewhat reserved and not being an open book tends to pique my interest.
Perhaps these are not healthy views to hold. But I figured they might help your story.
