Part 61
APNA GHAR
Thankfully we had managed to reach the hospital in time and the Doctor's immediately started treating Dev. It wasn't long after we had reached the hospital all the nearby regions were hit by a storm, interrupting all communications and services. Incessant rains and strong winds blocking major roads etc. I didn't even want to think about the consequences if we been a little late...
The only regret was that we couldn't inform Pari back in Delhi about Dev being here. Nani was really worried for both her children, one struggling for his life whereas other tensed for her brother's whereabouts.
Few days ago when Pari broke the news to Nani about Geet's kidnapping and the involvement of Ayesha Aunty and Dev in it. Nani was absolutely shaken up with this information. She felt defeated that Bade Papa's upbringing could go this wrong! She would have immediately left for Delhi but Apna Ghar's event needed her presence. It was Bade Papa's and Badi Maa's marriage anniversary, a very special day for Apna Ghar too!
Bade Papa had gifted Badi Maa this land as their anniversary gift. It was Badi Maa's dream to build a home for all the homeless, needy and troubled people. Every year this day was celebrated as Our Foundation Day and yesterday was Apna Ghar's Silver Jubilee Year. It was a major event with many local politicians, other respected people coming over, grand cultural and entertainment programmes, sports, food, frolic, fun for all the people.
If all would have been well even Pari and Khurana's would have graced this occasion but...
Though later Pari's call had relieved Nani to an extent. The news about Dev being innocent and how he rescued Geet and Aparna Aunty from the clutches of the kidnappers had eased off her burden, yet him being missing, that too in a heavily wounded state was the cause of her worry. She had always feared the day when Dev and Pari would come face to face with Ayesha's true face and her dirty past!
I had accidentally overheard her conversation with Mrs Khurana (Savitri Devi) and Maasi about the same, and how both her kids will be shattered and lost in this whirlwind of Ayesha Aunty's crime and betrayal. Only Nani could console and comfort Dev, she was supposed to leave for Delhi the next morning but Dev had miraculously landed up here.
Finally he was back home in the secured arms of his family!
Dev had been critical for many hours as he had been hit by bullets and lost a lot of blood but everybody's prayers were answered and thankfully Dev was out of danger. Though he has become very weak and been advised complete bed rest for couple of weeks. He had a few stitches on his forehead, his left arm was supported by a sling as he was hit by two bullets on his left side, plus numerous other bandages as he was badly hurt in the scuffle with the goons.
We had just brought Dev back home inspite of Doctors protest, Dev had been adamant to not to stay in the hospital, he hated hospitals probably because one of his most painful memory (Aman's death) is associated with hospitals. Nani understanding his pain too complied to his demand. She knew Dev will be much better off in the homely atmosphere here and will recover soon.
Now that the storm too had subsided and everything was back to normal, just like our lives which was caught up in a sudden cyclone but now all is calm!
Dev is back home for good!!!
Nani's voice broke my reverie, as she finally managed to call up Mrs Khurana. Though Dev had strictly objected to inform anybody about him being here because he didn't want to meet anybody right now.
Dev has been in a very vulnerable state of mind since he had gained consciousness. Apart from the Doctor and his staff, only Nani and Maasi were allowed in his room. Nani had somehow managed to convince him to just inform Khurana's as Pari would really be in a bad state, crying her eyes out worrying about him. And just for Pari he reluctantly agreed but only on the condition that nobody should come here.
The deep hidden truth had broken him beyond repair!
"Savitri main jaanti hoon tum sab bahot pareshaan ho Dev ke liye, issiliye network aate hi tumhe phone kar rahi hoon, yeh batane ke liye ke Dev bilkul theek hain aur yahin hain mere paas." Nani narrated all the happenings to Mrs Khurana and also mentioned about Dev refusing to meet anybody right now. She requested Mrs Khurana to handle Pari.
"Pari ko bolna uski fikar na kare, ab woh theek hain." But I assume Pari grabbed the phone and pleaded to come here but Nani was firm and calmly explained.
"Pari beta samjho! Iss waqt Dev iss haalaat mein nahi hain ke woh kisi se mile, woh bahot toot chuka hain. Kya tum chahti ho ke tumhara Bro tumhaare saamne sharminda ho, tumse nazarein churaye...nahi na...Toh Dev ko kuch waqt do."
"Mera vaada hain tumse woh bahot jald tumse milega. Woh toota zaroor hain par main usse haar ne nahi doongi. Ab jab woh tumse milega toh woh Aman Khanna ka beta ban ke milega! Thodi din dheeraj (patience) rakho aur abhi yahan mat aana...Please beta!" She requested.
Cutting the call she headed towards Dev's room.
KHURANA MANSION
[Vicky's POV]
Each passing day was adding up to our woes! The sudden storm has disrupted all the rescue operations, due to no network it was being difficult for the police to trace Dev. Pari had started being cold and stony, her guilt taking over her completely. She was holding herself responsible for all that happened to Dev. The other day when Bro was consoling her she just sat there emotionless, unresponsive to him. Bro eyes had teared up seeing her state. She hadn't eaten much from past 2 days, BB (Geet) had managed to somehow make her drink fruit juices.
Loosing all my patience last night I had fought with her, provoking her confronting her but to no avail! She didn't react just kept looking blankly at me. Maa had to forcibly put her to sleep last night. Feeling guilty for my behaivior yesterday, here I am trying from the past few hours to take her out for a drive to distract her but...
I looked at Maa dejectedly. From past few days there were only two things that Pari did either she would sit in her room staring blankly in any random direction or in the puja room mechanically taking part in the havan.
My lively, naughty Pari was lost somewhere!
I just don't know what to do...How and where do I find Dev...Why did I listen to Dev and went behind that Vikram...If I was a little alert Dev would be with us! Bro is trying his best to search Dev but now the 'natures wrath' had obstructed all our efforts.
Sometimes life plays a dirty game leaving you helpless and defeated! And sometimes out of the blue it embraces you with all the happiness!
A visibly elated Dadimaa entered the room talking on the phone. She immediately announced about Dev being with Nani at Apna Ghar. Pari just grabbed the phone to ensure it was true and Dev was fine. She pleaded to go there but I assume Nani refused her request. Half heartedly Pari agreed and cut the call hugging Dadimaa and crying her heart out.
"Ab kyun ro rahi ho, dimaag ke saath saath kaan (ears) bhi kharab ho gaye hain kya, tumne suna nahi Dev theek hain. And puhleez...don't tell me yeh khushi ke aansoon hain and all that..." I tried to irk her.
"Maa...isse kahiye yahan se chala jaaye, mujhe isse koi baat nahi karni. Isne kal raat mujhse bahot ladaai ki thi." She cried again complaining to Maa.
"Oh hello! Abhi kuch der tak toh tum aisa behave kar rahi thi jaise coma mein chali gayi ho aur ab dekho koi kahega tum wohi Pari ho. Ek number ki dramebaaz ho, nautanki kahi ki..." Before I could continue a pillow landed right on my face followed by many other articles while Dadimaa and Maa just coolly walked out leaving me here at the mercy of this wild cat!
Finally Pari was back to normal as usual always ready to fight with me!
APNA GHAR
[Nani's POV]
It felt so good to talk to Pari, due to the storm I couldn't inform them earlier. I was well aware Pari would be in a bad state worrying for Dev but now she will be okay. I walked in Dev's room, he lay on the bed with his eyes closed. I sit besides him and brush my fingers through his hair, a faint smile graces his face for a moment as he opens his eyes. He shifts a bit and rests his head on my lap shutting his eyes yet again. I knew he was awake and I wanted to talk to him. Taking up this opportunity I queried firmly.
"Dev kya hua tha? He stiffened a bit at my question.
"Main sirf sach jaan na chahti hoon...Apne dil ka saara dard nikal ke mujhe de do Dev, tumhe accha lagega" I continued to caress his head and then found him easing out. He narrated to me all that transpired after his telephonic conversation with Pari. How he dodged Vicky and fled from the forest.
"Nani uss waqt mere dimaag mein sirf ek hi baat thi, ke main jeena nahi chahta tha. Agar main Vicky ke saath wapas nahi jaana chahta tha."
"Do goli lagne ke bawajood (inspite) main zinda tha, shayad bhagwaan ko bhi meri zaroorat nahi thi lekin maine faaisla kar liya tha issliye main uss jeep ko hilltop tak le gaya. Main Dad ke paas jaana chahta tha iss zillat (shameful) bhari zindagi se door lekin achanak Dad ki bachpan mein kahi gayi baat mujhe yaad aayi, ke mera beta buzdil (coward) nahi hain jo peeth (back) dikhakar bhaag jaaye, woh ek fighter hain jo apni haar ko jeet mein badal dega!"
"Phir woh jeep achanak ek bade patthar se takraayi (crashed) aur main jeep se bahar gir gaya. Jeep khaai (valley) mein gir gayi! Main kaafi waqt tak jhaadiyon (bushes) mein behosh pada raha, jab hosh aaya toh andhera ho gaya tha. Dheere dheere main highway tak pohucha, ek taxi jaa rahi thi maine driver ko apne saare paise de diye aur usne mujhe yahan pohucha diya." He concluded.
"Dev tumhe ek pal ke liye bhi hamaara khayaal nahi aaya...tumne ek baar bhi nahi socha ke tumhaare bina Pari aur main kaise jeeyenge...Agar tum sahi waqt par jeep se bahar nahi gire hote toh!"
"Kya Ayesha ka dhoka hamare pyaar se bada tha...Bolo Dev?" I confronted him. The mere thougth that he was about to end his life had scared me beyond limits.
"Nani uss waqt mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha tha...koi insaan paison ke liye itna kaise gir sakta hain...Uss aurat ne mujhe kahin ka nahi choda...Jhooth bolti gayi mujhse...Dad ka naam leke mujhse na jaane kya kya karwaya hain...Apni hi nazron mein gir chuka hoon main!"
"Mujhe nafrat ho rahi hain apne aap se...yeh sach ke main kisi ka ganda khoon hoon...anchaha (unwanted) hoon...woh aurat na jaane kitne logon ke saath...Chi!!!! Ghinn aati hain mujhe apne aap se, apne wajood se...iss zindagi se!" He cried hiding his face in my lap.
"Dad mujhe kya bana na chahte the aur main kya ban gaya hoon...pehchaan nahi sakta main khud ko aaina (mirror) dekhne se bhi darr lagta hain mujhko...sach kehte hain log...ganda khoon ganda hi hota hain!" He spitted out in rage. His last words pierced my soul and I couldn't stop myself from slapping him.
"Khabardaar jo tumne mere Aman ko gaali di! Dekho meri taraf aur dhyaan se suno...Aaj keh diya hain dobara mat kehna! Tum mere Aman ke bete the, ho aur hamesha rahoge...samjhe tum."
"Aaj tak tum Ayesha ke bete ban kar uske dikhaye gaye galat raaste pe chal rahe the lekin ab se tum Aman aur Aastha ke bete ban kar unka sapna poora karo. Aman aur mere vishwaas par khare utro (live up) aur ek nayi shuruaat karo Dev!" I voiced out our desire, our dream for his bright future. To see him achieve everything honestly and not compromising on the ideals and virtues Aman and I have instilled in him.
"Nahi Nani ab bahot der ho gayi hain, sab kuch khatam ho gaya hain. Maine jo gunaah kiye hain uske baad main kisi se nazarein nahi mila sakta. Main ab wapas nahi jaana chahta, ab main yahin rahunga aap ke paas...mujhe aur kuch nahi chahiye!" He uttered dejectedly.
"Yeh tumhaara ghar hain Dev, aur ab isse tumhe hi sambhaalna hain lekin iss waqt tumhe sirf aaraam karna hain. Main abhi tumhaara khaana lekar aati hoon, baad mein dawaai (medicines) bhi leni hain." He nodded.I carefully placed his head back on the pillow and walked towards the door. I turned to see him, he had closed his eyes again.
He was still in a vulnerable state of mind and its not a right time to push him for anything. He needs time and I will give him all the time but he will have to stand up for himself, for us and above all for Aman!
"Dev tumne hi abhi kahan ke Aman ka beta buzdil (coward) nahi hain, main tumhe peeth dikhakar bhaagne nahi doongi tumhe ek fighter ki tarah apni haar ko jeet mein badalna hi hoga! Main dekhungi ke tum iss haar se ubhar (emerge) kar sab kuch jeeto jis ke tum haqdaar ho!
"Dev tum mere Aman ka guroor ho aur yeh main saabit kar ke rahungi!" I promised myself.
KHURANA MANSION
[Maan's POV]
Everybody was relieved that now Dev was fine! These past few days were no less than a nightmare for our family. Day by day the hopes and patience giving up though all tried to put up a brave front but internally the fear was building! Today the sight of smiling Pari chasing Vicky all around the mansion was so blissful and heart warming.
I always want see my family like this happy and lively!
With contended smile and a calm mind I entered my room only to see my darling Meeshti seriously engrossed in something. I followed her view, her eyes fixed on the TV screen where her favorite hero (u all free to fantasize ur fav😉) was flaunting his body and My wife busy drooling over him.
"Jab dekho yeh mere dimaag pe shots maarti hain!" I mumbled to myself.
"Geet yeh kya ho raha hain?" I asked moving towards her.
"Maan mujhe disturb mat kariye main movie dekh rahi hoon." She answered not even sparing me a glance, her eyes glued to that hero.
This was just too much!
"Accha...movie dekh rahi ho." I stated sarcastically and picked the remote switching off the tv.
'Nobody ignores Maan Singh Khurana!'
"MAAN...! Yeh kiya aap ne, abhi hero saare villains ko maarnewala tha aur aap ne beech mein se hi tv off kar diya." She yelled.
"Izzat se remote wapas dijiye, mujhe movie dekhni hain." She ordered me sternly.
"Dadagiri kar rahi ho woh bhi Maan Singh Khurana par!...Geet tum bhool gayi Dr ne kya kaha tha, ke aise time mein baby ko acchi acchi baatein sunani chahiye, naa ke aisi aatankwaadi types movies dekhni chahiye! Tumhara yeh haal hain toh meri beti toh abhi se hi yeh sab seekhne lag jaayegi." I smirked while her mouth wide open in an O hearing me while proudly I continued.
"Mooh band karlo Geet nahi toh makkhi andar chali jaayegi aur kaan khol ke sun lo khabardaar jo tumne aisi movies dekhi ya meri beti ko dikhayi. Samjhi tum." She glared at me probably trying to frame a good counter attack.
'You are too good Maan!' I mentally patted myself. But my joy was short lived as the next moment she started wailing like a toddler scaring the hell out of me.
"GEET...Dekho rona bandh karo warna abhi sab yahan aa jaayenge." I urged her calmly but she continued in a higher pitch now.
"Aaah...aane do sab ko...unhe bhi pata chale ke aap akele mein mujhe kitna dhamkaate hain. Ek toh main pregnant hoon...upar se Dr ne mujhe bed rest bola hain...aur aap hi saara din mera sar khaate ho aaraam karo...aaraam karo! Ab jab mein rest karte karte film dekh rahi hoon toh aap mujhe woh bhi nahi dekhne de rahe hain...Aaah..." She bawled loudly.
"GEET..." I placed my palm on her mouth before anybody would barge into our room.
'Ek nautanki kya kam hain, agar poori sena aa gayi toh Maan teri khair nahi! Kuch soch Geet ka dhyaan distract kar ne ke liye.'
"Dekho Geet aise rote nahi! Mujhe toh aadat ho gayi hain lekin socho hamaari beti kitna darr jaayegi aisi bhayaanak awaaz sun ke...Hain na"
"Aaah..." Now it was my turn to scream as she bit me on my palm and freed out of my grip snarling at me.
"Haaye! she looked so delicious!" Her pregnancy had added a distinct glow on her face everyday she appeared all the more beautiful!
A part of me just wanted to pounce on her but reminding myself about her health and Dr's advice I somehow tried to control myself. She grabbed my collar confronting me breaking my reverie.
"Kya kaha aap ne meri awaaz bhayaanak hain...aur ek minute...Aap ko kisne kaha ke hume beti honewali. Kaan khol ke sun lo Maan Singh Khurana hume beta hoga sirf beta!" She proclaimed cutely.
Haaye! yeh jaanleva adaayein!!! I mumbled to myself.
"Haan Geet zaroor beta hoga lekin agli baar, iss baar beti hi hogi!" I too declared.
"Beta"
"Beti"
"Beta"
"Beti" And the argument continued...
Geet was so involved in the argument that she failed to realize I had already made her lie down and was just playing along. Movie was long forgotten and then finally I whispered in her ears.
"Geet baaki ki fighting hum kal continue karenge ok, ab raat bahot ho chuki hain chalo so jao." She just kept staring at me in disbelief. I had managed to fool her yet again.
"MAAN...cheater kahin ke..." She started hitting me.
"Kal Geet ...kal...abhi Baby ko sona hain." I grasped her hands and hugged her tightly halting her movements but carefully not putting any pressure on our baby.
