😊Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I'm one of those silent readers -stalkers' as the forum puts it.- 😆 I enjoy reading many of the brilliantly written posts here but never really bothered to create an acc /id. Something prompted me today and here I am 😊 Before I start, Hindi is not my 1st lang, 2nd lang or even 3rd. I can understand about 60% of what is being said on screen and I rely on the posts by members here or the written updates for the parts I don't understand. So thank you for that.

You see, I AM NOT a fan of desisoaps. Saas bahu drama???? Uggghhh... not my cup of coffee!!!!🤢 IPK was my 1st Indian telly show. I started watching it last December and skipped most of the kidnap track episodes and stopped watching after the second marriage. -it kind of lost its charm afterwards" So can't really talk about other Indian soaps.

RR is my 2nd show. Sanaya Irani+ the first three promos got my interest then I was captivated by the story and every aspect of RR. Be it direction, editing, BGM, star cast ...brilliant acting by the actors...everything is brilliant so far. Yes, there are few glitches here and there but then we can't expect things to be perfect every time as there's no such thing as perfection (my personal opinion).

We are flawed creatures, all of us. Some of us think that means we should fix our flaws. But get rid of my flaws and there would be no one left' -Sarah Vowell-

Sooo yeah...for now I'm hooked and the moment it lost its charm... I'm out...Sayonara...as simple as that!!!

Now, about last episode, I see some posts on inconsistency in Rudra's character. That it's too early for him to turn into the soft'.. mushy Major we saw last Friday. I've seen the episode for three times and I still can't see a mushy Major Rudra Pratap Ranaawat. All I see is a boy full of insecurity and I feel really bad for the boy. See, he may be a major in BSD. A strong guy... a fighter... a janwar', who fears no one, who'll give his life for his country and a very selected few who are fortunate enough to be allowed in the circle he has drawn around him but emotionally he stopped growing at 13. His mother's desertion left a tremendous impact. He stopped being the prankster, the fun loving, and naughty boy. Since then, the angel became fallen angel!!! The boy lost his trust on humanity.

Now, fast forward.. 15 years later, the fallen angel got a glimpse of purity and innocence, of light.. a chance to free himself from the darkness surrounding him: PARO!!!! My sweet... innocent...mulish.. untouched by the world...angel Paro. Only an innocent like Paro could bring Rudra out of his darkness.

He never hated her. NO..Not from the beginning... not during the captor captive track... not during the fake marriage track... the Tejawat fiasco...when he believed her to have hurt his father nor during the supposedly' hate marriage... it's his anger (Rudra tandav is all abt Lord Shiva's anger not hatred) for not trusting him... for choosing Tejawat over him and for her stubbornness that caused him his job.

The Jaipur track is important because it's a turning point in RUdra's view of Paro. Before that, she was this innocent he wanted to protect from the world. Left to him, he would have wrapped her in a cocoon and locked her away from the world. That's how protective he is of his Paro. While, in Jaipur, he got to see the WOMAN' Paro. The drunken scene... he could not take his eyes off her... he didn't want to miss a single expression, a single word...he was like a barren soil receiving rain after 15 long years. The way she said no matter how much you hurt me... I'll still love you. Melting process of the stone that is Rudra started there and then.

That's why we got the prankster next morning. He let down his guard enough to pull her leg.

Afterwards"

His mother used to be the centre of his universe and now its Paro. He is building his life around her and when she started her silent treatment he could not take it. His actions before the sorry on the mirror' scene...I can't see the Major there... I see the 13 years old boy... The insecure child full of fear. What if she left him like his mother did ... That's why he said yes I'll do anything for your forgiveness--his insecurity. He is still the same gruffy Major.. evidence??????? The way he demanded not asked... "I said sorry now forgive me..." ( I read it as"you have to forgive me, I give you no other choice)

And the choodi (forgive me if I mis-spelt it) scene... he once said that he believed his mother left him because he refused to drink milk so he asked KCM to give him all the milk at home hoping his mother would return. Remember??? I believe it's the same here... The insecure boy again!!!

If KCM is clever enough she'd use this insecurity to play her game but she reminds me of villains of 80s (more brawn than brain). A good villain is one who identifies her/his enemy's weakest point and attack continuously. Here its Rudra's insecurity. So far she is playing cupid not villain!!!! And the day she realizes this, she will be the catalyst' that destroys Rudra and Paro's budding relationship.

We will get the janwar' back but no matter how far he pushes her, he will bring her back. That's Rudra for you. He is more dependent on her than she is on him.

----loved the choodiwala scene. Major Rudra Pratap Ranaawat, you should have asked your Srimatiji the exact colour she wanted ---pink has got brothers and sisters.. you see 😆😆 its important to get the correct sibling or your Srimatiji might send you back to get the exact shade.

Hi!

Welcome to the (writing and interaction) portion of the forum! I agree with you as far as the issue of what we saw onscreen went--absolutely, a man who has had no relationship with a woman for fifteen years (well..given Laila, lets say--a relationship that is healthy) would be emotionally stunted. I agree what we saw as far as the pink bangle scene, aside from being HILARIOUS was also a moment of need for our Major. For me, it was mushy--not because of the action itself, but what prompted it--this is after all a man who in fact has bought bangles for Paro in the past---red ones he put onto her forcefully, then crushed beneath his feet. So the action is hardly new--the emotions behind them, on the other hand, are.

And I would respectfully argue the reasons for the bangles (a symbol, in case you were unaware, of marriage and sensuality, especially when bought for a woman by a man--its a gift that, even today, shy young unmarried girls wont accept from their boyfriends) and are very adult, indeed--his need to keep Paro his--marked by him, through bangles he bought, as his.

My issue with the characterization of him as childish, or, rather, I guess, juvenile would be--can you say he feels for Paro the way he did for his mother? No, naa? I mean, Oedipus and abandonment issues aside, his ownership, as it were, over Paro is too distinct a difference.

Mala was someone who scarred him with her departure, but I think that is when he grew up too fast. He never understood why she did it, but he made something of himself, something strong and terrifying. And with Paro, there is need, but also understanding. With Paro, he understands her too well for them to even need much conversation--they read each other quite well, certainly much more than any other couple I've seen on TV manage to do ever after years of marriage (IPKKND being a prime example). Their bond seem to be of the soul, not of years or shared experiences.

I would argue that he had to grow up so fast after Mala, he literally didn't have a childhood beyond the bus scene. His need to possess Paro, have her pretty much stare at him 24/7 (Peet dikha math! Paro Uth!! Paro Baith!! Paro mere taraf dekh!) stems from his mother's abandonment, yes. But it also stems from pure, very adult lust and passion.

Thanks for an interesting post!

I agree with you, Rudra wasn't being mushy or romantic. He was just being openly caring and cherished the one person who seems to love him unconditionly. When his mother left him, he stopped trusting people with his heart. With Paro too, his behaviour was based on the thoughts of his mind rather than the emotions stired in his heart. That's why he was so frustrated and constantly fighting with himself. He hated being torn into two because of her, but never hated her. When she spoke up for him to the social workers, her honest words finally forced him to listen to her side of their story. His heart-mind conflict is finally clear and he starts to trust her. His hope in relationships is being slowly rebuilt and years of hurt and betryal is slowly healing. He doesn't want to loose her now, so is ready to do anything to win her happiness. I wouldn't call him an insecure little boy, as his relationships with everyone is quite normal under the circurmstances. He is able to judge that father who raised him in bitterness is treated in an off hand manner, the uncle who is affable to him is treated with kindness, the aunt and brother who treat him rudely always face his caustic tongue and the sister-in-law who is kind to him is treated with respect. Even with the people under his command, he cares enough to go to extreme to ensure that their honour remains after them. In my opinion, his mother walking out on him and his father makes it hard for him to beleive in relationships with women and he doesn't trust them with his heart. Paro has managed to open up but until she knows what ails his heart, it will be hard for her to win him over.

Loved the post, very beautifully written. Even I felt the same after when I saw the prankster in the morning after the party and the insecure boy who can not bear losing the one person his whole world revolves around once again like it did all the years back, in the episode after their return back home.

Dear Kate,
That is a hell of a first post! Thank you for skilfully putting all the layers of Rudra together and presenting. We live from moment to moment, yet each moment is a culmination of similar past moments!

The story so far has been pretty honest except for the social worker track that seemed like an add in. But they nevertheless made it short and worked in some very useful social messages there... Such as Domestic anger is not good as well, and the army has to live within the limits and boundaries of civil society as well.

So yeah, its going great! Your take was fantastic and echoed a lot of my thoughts. Welcome to IF and I hope you spend many happy hours here with some incredibly smart, warm, funny, passionate, logical, romantic, talented, fangirling people!
