Humans from birth, are taught way of leading ones life in a civilized way, per norms set by culture and society. If not then humans would have been termed as uncivilised species. Agreed?

Pets / Animals under proper guidance adapt and grow the way, they are being taught from begining. Ok, With few exceptions but Agreed?

If answer is YES to above, we are following the same trail but wait here comes the Stop Sign and debate am trying to get to.

Are we responsible to inculcate gender biasing thoughts in minds of growing children, to grow as a gender biased individuals?

Consider the following :

1. Boys are discouraged to play with dolls.

2. Girls are discouraged to take up paper dropping job for part time job.

3. Boy and Girl child in the house, always Boy child is asked to go to market and get stuff.

4. Girls are encouraged to help mom's out in kitchen as compared to boys.

Consider the following :

1. Boys are discouraged to play with dolls.

I can't relate to this..Because both I and my brother used to play with this one doll, which we made a ganja by washing its hair everyday😆...I wish my parents told him not to play with that doll, I could have easily done away with atleast one less competetor....

2. Girls are discouraged to take up paper dropping job for part time job.

No idea...

3. Boy and Girl child in the house, always Boy child is asked to go to market and get stuff.

Again here, even if by mistake my mom sent my brother to fetch some things from the market- she would get a biiig lecture from my dad for not sending me instead- as according to him, I was better at it...

4. Girls are encouraged to help mom's out in kitchen as compared to boys.

My mom always used to tell me- you go and study, I don't want you to end up in a kitchen when you grow up...😆...

Parents are mostly responsible for creating gender biased in the children when they are growing. I am not saying that all parents are like this but such types of parents, are existing where they give preference to boys more than their own girl child. Family is the based from where children inculcate certain thoughts process (from what they see and hear their parents say and do in certain situations), which they carry forward in their lives. If parents do not show or behave in a biased way towards their own children then it will be a stepping stone in reducing or removing completely the gender biasing system.

Consider the following :

1. Boys are discouraged to play with dolls. - Yes,instead they are given toy guns... which is worst...

2. Girls are discouraged to take up paper dropping job for part time job. - No idea... but never seen a girl or a lady dropping newspaper.

3. Boy and Girl child in the house, always Boy child is asked to go to market and get stuff. Never experience such a thing. Oh well, I dont have a bro but still have not seen where there is bros and sis in a family either.

4. Girls are encouraged to help mom's out in kitchen as compared to boys. So True!!! If only the boy is going to go outside India for studies or to live in other city then only boys are told to learn the basic cooking.. have seen this happening.... But girls are supposed to learn cooking because it is supposed to be their birth right to cook after marriage.

Anshu,

I am so doing my bit to eradicate this bias in my house...you should drop in one evening to see my younger daughter all of 3 1/2 years "flying around" in her super man costume 😆
She refuses to wear anything else these days and I have to sneak the costume into laundry when she goes to school 😆

2. Girls are discouraged to take up paper dropping job for part time job. N/A

3. Boy and Girl child in the house, always Boy child is asked to go to market and get stuff. N/A as we had a maid and servant who did that job. They took turns so no gender bias.😃

4. Girls are encouraged to help mom's out in kitchen as compared to boys. N/A.

Anshu, None of the situations is applicable in my house but I still agree with you that gender biasing does happen from childhood. It is so deep rooted in us that we don't know how and when to distinguish. It is not just confined to countries like India but also US and all over the world. If a boy tries for cheerleading then he is called a sissy.

I believe that toyguns should be banned. I dislike the idea of little children shooting each other even for fun.

Isn't this a funny logic? Because world's best restaurants have all men as chefs. If women were so good at cooking then why don't we have more women doing this job in restaurants? 😕

I think it is easy to assign housework to women because it is much more tougher and who wants to do a payless job anyways?

after reading your post i can come to one conclusion its all cultural, nothing wrong for a girl to drop newspaper, infact wouldnt mind doing that, have seen women dropping flyers around 😛 , nothing wrong in men being in kitchen, have seen them doing that too, nothing wrong in girls going to market, it varies in different places, at one place its safe for a girl to go to the market while at another place it might not be great to let girls alone at market when safety is concerned, that doesnt mean that its safe for guys but relatively she might be picked on easily, sorry about the dolls 😕 , cant comment becoz if guys used to show up at our doll house, we yell at them to leave the doll house and laugh off its all cultural and yes its about how you are raised and where. parents, family, society inculcate those thoughts in your mind which becomes ingrained in you while you grow up.

Anshu, I am not going to answer any of your question but one thing I never understand why we question these things. Arre bhai bhagwan ne hee jab dono ko ek sa nahin banaya to why do we expect both to be the same. Both of them have their own strenths and weaknesses but they are compliment to each other so why don't we think that way? Yes any one can excel in any field by extra efforts and exceptions are everywhere in everything so that's why they are here too, but there are something which are common in general. For example men has more physical strength than women and women can deal emotional stuff better than man so on so forth. In my opinion one should do what they want to do & like but even then we should follow some basic society norm, as we live in society. Yes society norms can be changed slowly slowly according to change in environment & circumstances, as we are the one who make society and society norms. We should think men and women as compliment to each other, respect each other and should not compare amongst each other, that's just my POV.

Gender biasing is a good way of setting up roles for gender... after all there are differences anyway.... So honing the maternal instincts in gals with 2 & 4 and makiing the guy tougher makes for an healthier society.. doing other way rounf might create chaos.....giving boys dolls is making making them wussies for life... making gals grow up doing thing like guys.. makes her insecure and an insensitive mother leading to a higher divorce rate due to overassertiveness...

the gal can act as the leiutenant to hte husband then trying to be a general... imagine what happens when a soldiers questions the generals right to order him...😊.. but if the guy is not the person he is expected to be.. women need to be tougher to handle those situations as well...but given the chances the former leads to a more healthier society
