My Box Office Predictions for Kaanchi

Subhash Ghai is one of the most respected, legendary directors of Bollywood. As a matter of fact, when his career is over, he will be remembered much in the same way the late great Yash Chopra is remembered for his legendary directorial career. KARZ, HERO, RAM LAKHAN, KHALNAYAK, PARDES, and TAAL are just some of his movies that are fondly remembered by many.

It can't be denied though that what comes up...must go down. A similar thing has happened with Subhash Ghai over the years as he has been delivering one box office dud after another, such as YAADEIN, KISNA and YUVRAAJ.

This Friday, its time to add another film to his list of box office duds: KAANCHI!

KAANCHI showed some promise few years ago. In 2012, the teaser was released (The film was also given special release date at the time for Independence Day 2013). It seemed through the teaser that Subhash Ghai was looking to make a comeback with a TAAL sort of film giving importance to the main actress in the film.

However, things have changed over time! KAANCHI's release kept getting delayed until the random release date was finally confirmed and when the theatrical trailer did come, it didn't leave any impact. When the audience wasn't excited to see superstar Madhuri Dixit fighting/getting aggressive in GULAAB GANG, then why should they be excited to see newcomer actress Mishti do the same? Also, actor Kartik Tiwari's dialogue delivery in the trailer looks awkward.

I'm sure Rishi Kapoor is only doing this film due to his good relationship with Subhash Ghai that goes way back to the KARZ days. Ditto for Mithun Chakraborty who must be doing the film due to having a good relation with Ghai.

The film will definitely have a weak opening as the buzz is low. Opening will be poor at multiplexes and single screens. It is possible that the film may get decent WOM but even then I expect the film's business to remain poor throughout its lifetime run with not enough escalation in business.

My Box Office Predictions for KAANCHI:

Opening Day: 1+ crores net

Opening Weekend: approx. 5 crores net

Lifetime collections: approx. 10 crores net

Overall Box Office Verdict: Flop
