Yes, Ela. Though Mainavati gave the reason as saving Jodha's marriage, it seems the Ameris were also reluctant to get on the bad side of Jalal and therefore didn't take Jodha back with them.
The situation that has occurred now had occurred then too. In fact, it was worse. If Jalal hadn't saved Jodha, she would have been dead.
If Bharmal could come and take her to Amer yesterday, why didn't Mainavati then? After all, he said that his daughter was mentally upset and needed to heal amidst her family, away from Jalal for the time being. Jodha was mentally agitated after the MC track too.
Bharmal said that they always invited their daughters home for Gangaur and she would be distracted from her problems by the festivities. Then also it must have been time for Gangaur (after Holi, and the first Gangaur for Jodha after marriage). So Mainavati could have taken her home for the festival and counselled her properly there and sent her back to Agra, after allowing time for Jalal to cool down too.
Didn't Bharmal say yesterday that Jodha's mother and grandmother would counsel her and ensure that she returned to Jalal? This same method could have been resorted to one year back too and it would have worked wonders too.
Somehow, I also feel Jodha has been sacrificed for her family's interests - they are so guarded about their own family and Amer that they don't care what happens to her. Even MS has not done anything for his bua even after being at Agra. Sujamal is perhaps the only one from her family who has time and again risked his life to meet her, whether at her marriage or now.
Now also Bharmal may have come looking for Jodha to appease Jalal. Now he is talking of a daughter's rights - what if Jodha had asserted these rights then and overridden Mainavati and landed up at Amer? Would he have welcomed her? It's also a matter of shame for them in the eyes of society that their daughter is living in an ashram, away from her parental home. So now they are covering up their shame by making a grand show of affection and taking her home. Jodha has given them a befitting reply that she is not at their mercy - she can lead an independent existence.
