It depends upon the person who is asking me the question.. if the person is elderly, cannot just cut off cos that will seem rude, so politely smile and try and change the topic. But if the person is younger than me then I will tell him/her to not ask such questions as it is not proper to ask them. 😊

You just need to tell all the people that this guy/girl is Income tax spy and thats why enquiring about your earnings assets etc.... πŸ˜‰

He will never ask this questions after he gets blows from people πŸ˜† JK....

My take would be jaise ko taisa.... You dont need to entertain them and you dont need to be rude to them as well..... You can neglect the blah blah and concentrate on main things you wanna discuss πŸ˜‰

yaar, doh shabd ki galati toh Antakshari mein bhi maaf hoti haiπŸ˜•....πŸ˜† Good catch. What I actually meant that they brag about over the weekend get togethers what they made trading stocks. Sequence thoda hil gayaπŸ˜†

I think there are more people who brag about their assets and achievements then people who ask about your net worth..

nahhh...I have seen way too many who want to do both...brag about the money they made and how much you earn.

It is more prevalent in recently immigrated desis who are still trying to get to know each other but once they settle down into a group of people with more or less similar economic status they stop comparing and start enjoying each other more.

well, once they settle down and have inquired how much everyone in their circle is making......they do start enjoying more but comparisons never go away. That's where the rat race comes in. I usually steer clear of people who are like this😊

I have noticed this trend with IT people (especially the ones who are contract employees) and the small scale businessmen like grocery stores, real estate agent etc. Most of the people who went to school here and went for higher education usually do not need to brag about how much they are making. Exceptions are everywhere but this is the trend I have noticed in desi community here.

Nosy people will always be nosy, however hard you try avoiding them.I love giving them answers that keep them wondering or steer clear of me.
Reminds me of two different incidents.
1.When in college I used to visit one of our friend's place who happened to be a guy for our weekly adda.My uncle staying a few blocks away from them once sarcastically mentioned "I see you in our colony all the time".So I told him one day,"Oh you didn't know, he is my boy friend and his parents adore me".That shut him up.πŸ˜›
2.Once while traveling on a bus for a road trip,a lady sitting next to me started chatting with me and eventually asked me about my caste. I was in the mood for mischief and told her I was a Harijan.Within 10 minutes she went and sat in a different seat and I had the luxury of stretching my legs.πŸ˜†
Here in the US, no one has asked me such inquisitive questions yet.But yes people do brag.I just don't acknowledge the bragging.

πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

I used to take my little cousin for a walk, and I'd meet this woman everyday at the local veg shop. One day she asked me if my cousin was my daughter, and I said yes she was. Her next statement was that I didn't look married and I said " maine ye kab kaha ki meri shadi ho gayee hai!" πŸ˜†

If people ask me my salary, I always give a fabulously exaggerated amount and tell them how much I have in my bank, and how soon I am planning to retire πŸ˜†

^^(All of the above) πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†!

@ Tania: What's a Harijan? πŸ˜•

Well I guess it would look better to give a witty comment in response! Something that would make them look stupid and wished they had never asked in the first place! And yeah it's not good to these people too much acknowledgement, big headed ********!

I can't stand the nosie people when they first see you ask abt your profession, where I am from, which part of gujarat I am from 😑 (I am not from Gujarat), etc. Some even ask you how much we paid for the house and now what it is worth. Too many personal question. Why can't they act professional?

Funny incident when we went to India first time some relatives not only ask us how much we make in $s but some also wanted to know how much we made in Rs every month. 😳 🀒 πŸ˜† . How much is our home worth.

Nosie people are everywhere some call them inquisitive and some ignorants call them stalkers. Just my 2 cents.

May be we should have another topic on what qualifies as stalker or stalking πŸ˜† ?
