Amitabh Bachchan says Cheeni Kum is a sugarless romance

People are comparing it with Nishabd because they see you paired with a younger woman.

The only similarity is the age difference between the two main characters. Nishabd was a serious introspective look at an odd situation and its repercussions, whereas Cheeni Kum is situationally light-hearted and hopefully funny, with firm tongue-in-cheek humour.

I think Balki has deliberately kept himself, the screenplay and the performances away from the norm, even though situations may have warranted it. It's just another love story, except that the boy is 64, the girl is 32 and her father 58! Instant fun, na!

Audiences, especially women, rejected the generation-challenged relationship in Nishabd. Did the vehemence of the rejection shock you?

Audiences are always right. If they rejected something we must respect that. But there were a whole lot of very welcome and congratulatory reactions too which I stored on my phone.

They serve me whenever I need an adrenaline rush. I don't know if audiences are ready or not for such films. From the box office results, perhaps not, but as an artist, it gave me creative satisfaction at par with what I experienced in Black.

How different is the experience of working with younger actresses opposite you, like Jiah in Nishabd and now Tabu?

No difference. Should there be any? We all play our parts as directed. We mingle and enjoy the experience of working together. We share creativity and look forward to enjoying its results
