hi everyone this is the first topic i am posting in DM
it is now 150 years since first war of independece from British
and whole nation is celebrating

here is an article on it
https://www.javno.com/en/world/clanak.php?id=42924

this time 150 years ago Jhansi ki Rani, Bahadur Shah Zafar, and Nana Sahib were determined to overthrow the British

there were few causes for this war:
-British wanted Bharati soldiers to use rifle which had cartridge made of beef and pork fat (Hindu cant eat beef, and Muslim cant eat pork)
-British were adding more territories day by day
-They had rule over economy
-British wanted to convert the people to Christianity

Mangal Pandey was hanged about a a month before this war started
and it is considered that his death triggered many people to fight

what is you opinion on this war?
do you think if Bharat had won this war it would be better off today?
did Mangal Pandey's death give motivation for the people to fight?
if Mangal Pandey wasnt hanged, and was fighting in the actual war would we have had a better chance to win the war? because sometimes one man can make a difference (thats what they said in Spiderman 3 😆)

Congrats Ronnie on your first post. 👏 That makes me wanna post a reply 😊.

One has to be ultra careful commenting on such topics, since these names you mentioned are looked up as freedom fighters! We all salute them and their efforts 👏 and immensely thank them for making people REALIZE the need to be free.. 😳
History being written by historians who may / may not be biassed, it is hard to comment. The comment based on studying history is a bias / opinion rather than a fair debate. I will still post my thoughts having said the above. If it hurts/ contradicts another opinion / bias, my apologies. Since none of us were around then, we all believe what we read 😛, which could be a mere opnion.

it could not be a revolution as discrete as it should have been / was planned to be 😊

I have no clue. I cannot comment on a country based on several great concepts that remain to be mere pseudo-concepts in effect ( unity in diversity, secularism, democray to name few) I am neither positive nor negative looking at the last 60 years.

Some men can make a difference by themselves. Some don't. It also is the TASK that defines one's limitations- not his / her greatness or abilities. Revolution was and should have been a UNITED effort. Every person hanged fighting against injustice and British Raj, made a difference! Several were involved in actually over-throwing the British Raj however.

It wasn't one man's war unlike One Newton who told us of GRAVITY.
