Professionals eg. Car mechanic / Doctors / Software dev / Lawyers/ etc...

You hire or take payed services of qualified professionals to take charge of your problems and provide definate guidance to resolve it.

But have seen professionals who play safe, they give recommendations rather then telling what is the route one should take.

Should professionals provide definate resolution to one's problem, taking accountability for thier actions OR simpily give recommendations and options to the client to make the final decision?

PS - feel free to throw in examples or need real life examples let me know (NO) .. hope u know what I mean here

I have used 1,2 and 4 and as long as they are not quacky flaky, even if they SUGGEST something, I will usually test the opinion and go for it. Can't do w/o them. Especially the former .. I cannot even fill air and check pressure in tire. 😳😳😳 spoilt by male relatives & caring / unlteriorly motivated male friends 😆😆😆

LOL.. i see the point. I once took my grad-school car (worth 2500 bucs😆) to firestone and the guy gave me an estimate I thought I could make a down payment on diablo (exaggerating). Later, I sent a colleague (male) asking about similar car issues, and he was presented a modest estimate 😛😛.
So, some consultants are smarty-pants.😡

I was always told by doctor what to do (rather what not to do ;) )and never had trouble so far. Again, since 50% of my family is infested with doctors marrying doctors and reproducing doctors, I think I am at an advantage of multiple opinions and hence I seemingly fail to appreciate the seriousness of trouble you mentioned 😳

Doctors should tell us what to do and they generally do tell us what to do whenever there is only one option to go for but in some medical cases, there are two three options which a patient can opt for and doctors just give us all pros and cons regarding each procedure. Second thing is the cost factor, if a procedure is very costly then some families based on their financial condition may not go for it but would prefer some other option. Mostly cost and relief to the patient decides which procedure or option to go for. In such cases naturally doctors have to give two three options and let the family decide.

In car mechanic case also, cost plays a major part. The mechanic may tell you the problem but due to the high cost you may not go for the full repair but part. Of course there are some mechanics who will go round and round with jargons and options and confused the customer... 😊 Such kind of people are there in all the professions.

The civil contractor may also give you the estimate but how much work has to be done depends upon the cost and your urgency of the work.

Lawyers may tell you all the legal options in the case but the ultimate decision obviously lies with the client, because he/she will decide which one to go for as it will affect their life.

Sweta, Yes the logic why professionals might throw in options is correct. Am saying Professionals should give a definate resolutions without if's / but's and lay down what should happen if not asked for options. Giving un asked for options to layman confuses him/her.

I think it's better in every way that they let's you know all the available options and their advantages and disadvantages, so that you can make your own decision if you so desire. What if they acted only in a way they deemed best without consulting you. There's every possibility that you may not be satisfied with the end result and yet it would be too late to change after everything has already been done. Better for the pro to consult you to see if you've some specific preference and then going ahead with the job.

Good topic Anshu .. infact I was thinking about the same thing somedays back.

I don't know ..we should blame service providers or us as *Customers*, *Clients*..
I feel tranistion of services into something comparable as all other purchasable goods is very unfortunate thing..... convert some institutions like teaching into businesses and here you go ..they start behaving exactly like all other business people do..
they offer their services ...shows all the available options .. play safe and leave decision onto their *Clients* .... Who wants legal problems later on..
