I am extremely sorry to make a different post regarding The Gift, when already there are many posts regarding the same but then I came across one post and I really liked the way she put the things together without leaving any chance to add something. However I got this opinion to add regarding the gift. So My Apologies for Quoting her part of the post without asking her permission, I am sorry.

Special mention: The gift rejection scene - I really liked that scene, not only because it later showed SaKhi but also because it showed that the difference in feelings. He didn't want to accept Paki's gift because she was an employee to him but Kalpi was more than that to him. To him, it wasn't just a gift but meant way more. It also showed that he's not willing to accept gifts from anyone but Kalpi. It was in a way to show that she has claims over him.

As We saw from Not only after Raghav returned from abroad after the gap of 10 years but also when he was here, he gave Kalpana the Abacus which was actually his last gift from her father, It was the last object that he wouldn't have given it to any one, but eventually he gave that to Kalpana. It was his faith. And now Kalpana presented him the idol of Shri Ganpati, her faith. Making there relationship spiritual rather than worldly one.

How ever when we talk about Pakhi, she Loves him only because he is so handsome and well he is of higher status than anyone she had ever known and her respect or love towards him is due to this fact. As we had already seen that when they were kids she used to get irritated by him because she knew some where in the back of mind that his position is no more than son of her fathers friend or what ever. she was a child then of-course. But Kalpana did respected him, yeah may be we can argue that he was rich in her eyes but so was Prem or Pakhi. Pakhi was forced on her due to her mother's partial care for Pakhi. But for Raghav she had a natural respect- remember when Raghav was about to run away, on his last day at Kapoor's house, Pakhi and Kalpi were having a small chat on Raghav and Pakhi had said that Raghav was weird and was arrogant and then Kalpi had argued that he was actually not that bad, he is just tough to understand.

So what my point was that Pakhi gave him gift according toh what he would prefer according his status. But Kalpi bought him gift thinking just about the spirituality of there relation. For there relation was based on nothing but faith and respect towards one another.

PS All thanks to Shona_Mayur who unknowingly helped me to describe about what I think regarding the difference of perception of The Gift with regard to Kalpi-Pakhi-Raghav.

You said it all..the idol gift has so much significance n quite impactfull...!
Paakhi's gift is so obvious as shez brought up in a so brand conscious way..shez smitten by his looks n actions towards her..I guess that's her own definition of love.
