^^Difficult to do that as long as she insists on clinging to her "sexy" image.

See, Sunny is here to make money and Bollywood is giving her the opportunity to do that. And I think its not only media which is hell bent on highlighting her po*nstar status, but she herself is cashing primarily on that. It goes both ways. Let media stop making a 'Big deal' about her 'sexiness', which is ofcourse referred in content of her previous profession as a po*nstar. I'm not saying in anyway that Sunny doesn't deserve to be a part of Bollywood but she should stop piggybanking on her past & same goes for media too. But here in India where po*nography is a far cry from being legal, though enjoyed in the secrecy of their bedrooms, it gives the average Indian male a great deal of 'excitement' to actually catch their object of fantasies from the hidden folders of their computers to the TV/Big screen. Bollywood knows she'll sell, so they're selling her. As simple as that. Is it a problem? Maybe yes, but its very difficult to come to a conclusion about this matter IMO.

It might not emerge as a surprise that the word "sex" is heavily searched on the internet on a daily basis, but what may be considered a bit interesting is the fact that the word is favored a lot while being searched on the search engine Google with excessive traffic coming from Sri Lanka and India.

The "sex" search - Top 10 countries (analysis as of December 26, 2012)

1. Sri Lanka

2. India

3. Papua New Guinea

4. Ethiopia

5. Pakistan

6. Bangladesh

7. Vietnam

8. Nepal

9. Somalia

10. Cambodia

And if there is objectification, I don't think the answer to it is to just say "So what? It's inevitable?" The last we can do is discuss it and address it as a problem.

Your point about objectification should cover all aspects of media and not just po*nography. Objectification is everywhere from commercials to newspapers to magazines to movies. In that case, almost everything should be condemned.

and apart from sex, just as an example, it's more interesting what people are looking for. po*n is much more seen in morally higher and pure countries, where probably no one does have sex(only rape happens, wither on roads, buses or on beds in a marriage). A few years ago, there came data according to which it's clear that po*n is being seen much more in these countries, and in that particular year, it was Pakistan...but most horrifying thing was...they searched for Rape sex. So where's the problem...!! Actually in our society, in our HYPOCRISY. So until we become a critical insider, we really can't blame anything on anyone. If we want to do something aabout anything, wee've to start form the beginning, from our roots.

^^Very true. Its fairly common sense (and knowledge) that repression leads to perversion of expression. But then the question arises, what happens when this desire is let out through sanctioned channels, i.e., sexual freedom is legitimised in the society? While not an opponent of sexual freedom, we've all witnessed the impact too much of it can have on the social and familial insititutions, e.g. in the West.

One of the biggest ironies in America is that Bill Clinton was impeached pretty much for lying about an affair. He was impeached by a house whose speaker Newt Gingrich was having an affair at that very moment. He was counseled by the Rev.Jesse Jackson who by then had a child out of an affair with a staffer. I've seen politicians who preach family values have affairs. I've seen preachers who are against gay marriage go see male prostitutes. So I have become very cynical when anyone flies the family values banner.

What I know is this. Slavery is wrong, human trafficking is terrible. But the underlying causes are mostly poverty, ignorance, lack of education, opportunities. There are many who land up in terrible places because of those reasons. We should do our best to eradicate those. But there are also people like Sunny Leone, who chose the po*n profession because it probably pays very well. Why is that ?

I don't know the answers, but I know in places people actually accept that where there are humans, s*x will happen regardless of marriage and provide things like condoms lessens the chances of AIDS or STDs. Empowering women helps. Hypocrisy fails, every single time.

I feel the word condemned is too strong here. What I'd advocate for is more education and awareness of issues like this. Instead of hiding away from the word "sex" like it's a plague.

True, what you say. Hypocrisy and pseudo-morality are at the root of a lot of social problem. But the question lies in the ways and tact required to address them, so that in an overdrive to be "modern" and "open", we don't enlarge the already-existing divide and strata imbalance in our society.
