MTH-4th highest opening of 2014

Main Tera Hero has collected Rs 5.86 crore on its opening day at the box office, which is the 4th highest for 2014 behind films like Jai Ho, Gunday and Ragini MMS 2.

The David Dhawan film would have probably collected around 6.5 crore or more, if not for the India - South Africa T20 semi-final, which affected the evening and night shows on Day 1.

Even though Main Tera Hero was Varun Dhawan's second film, the opening day business is better than films like Shahid Kapoor's Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (5.3 cr), Sidharth Malhotra's Hasee Toh Phasee (4.38 cr) and Farhan Akhtar's Shaadi Ke Side Effects (5.45 cr).

On Saturday (today), the morning shows were better than Friday and evening shows are likely to have much higher occupancy as there are no cricket matches today.

However, since India has qualified for the big final tomorrow, shows from 6:30PM onwards will be affected.

• Delhi/UP - 1.18 cr
• East Punjab - 0.45 cr
• Rajasthan - 0.4 cr
• C.P - 0.32 cr
• C.I - 0.24 cr
• Andhra/Nizam - 0.36 cr
• West Bengal - 0.28 cr
• Mysore - 0.21 cr
• Others - 0.38 cr
• Total - 5.86 cr

MTH total budget is 40 crore...from which angle this is a decent opening given it's release size, director and budget?...clearly it underperformed
