DON'T YOU KNOW ME?? - PART 4

Gudhi Padwa was over. Aastha and Shlok performed the Pooja as it was their first Gudhi Padwa together... And the last one too.

Aastha had just changed her saree. She sat in front of the mirror in the bedroom removing her ear-rings. She saw herself in the mirror and her eyes suddenly watered when she realised that only one night was left for the hearing of divorce.
"Chhe mahine kaise guzar gaye pata hi nahi chala..." said Aastha. These six months passed away so quickly... She wished they were longer... but they were over now.

The memories of these six months flooded into her mind...
The day of the first hearing in the court when the judge ordered them to stay together for six months... She remembered how Shlok had pretended to love her so much in front of he judge... She smiled sadly remembering that...
She stayed separately initially, in the guest room. Shlok hated her so much... But she still went and hugged him when she was afraid - be it the darkness or a rat or anything else...
Baba, in the party, declared her to be the 50% partner of their new company along wih Shlok. She remembered how upset Shlok was...!
Shlok always troubled her a lot, be it office work or work at home... Still she always loved him...!
She remembered the Maghi Ganpati pooja when they had made the Ganpati idol...
Valentine's day... the day when her heart shattered into pieces... again...!!
But she knew Shlok was a nice guy... she knew now that his past was the reason of his rough behaviour... She wanted to bring back the Shlok she was introduced to through the diary...
Shlok had fever and then she shifted to his room... Her behaviour towards him changed drastically...
And then came Aditi and everything changed!! Aastha recalled the recent events as she fumed with rage...
How Aditi tried to get everyone's attention, her sleep-walking drama, her trying to come close to Shlok... Aastha always envied her!
This Holi was very special for Aastha... because she confessed her love for Shlok!! A huge burden was off her...!! She felt relaxed... And then Aditi tried to kill her, but Shlok saved her...!
And then the Goa trip - the car accident, the fall from the cliff, the horse riding accident... These were no accidents! She knew it now! Aditi was behind all this...!! But now the only proof she had was destroyed by Aditi. And no one believed her... No one... Not even Shlok!! She was deeply hurt by this...! But, all this gave her those lovely moments with Shlok which she will always treasure. She could know how much Shlok cares for her, how much he loves her...
Aditi tried to kill her... Now if she left after divorce, Aditi would kill Shlok...!!
The thought of Shlok's death scared Aastha. She shivered. "Nahi... Shlok ko kuchh nahi ho sakta... I will not let anything happen to Shlok! Only I know about Aditi!! I must not leave Shlok alone... I must stay with him... I must stay...!" she thought.
And then she remembered that even Shlok did not believe her when she said Aditi was not a good person... She remembered their conversation...
"Kya mere jaane se aap ko koi fark nahi padta...? Boliye Shlok!! Kya aap ko koi fark nahi padta?!!!"
"Haan!!! Nahi padta...!!!" Shlok had yelled.
His words echoed through her mind as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Jab Shlok ko koi fark nahi padta, toh main yahan kyun rahun?!!" she thought. "Why should I stay if Shlok doesn't care! Why should I stay if he doesn't like me staying here... Why should I stay if he doesn't need me... Agar mere yahan rehne se unhein takleef hoti hai, toh kyun rahun main yahan?! Sirf isliye ki main rehna chahi hoon...? Just because I don't want to leave? Who cares what I feel... Who cares what I want...!! I will not stay here any more... No way!!"
Aastha was totally confused. On one hand, she wanted to stay to save Shlok from Aditi, and on the other she didn't want to repeat her mistake of staying with Shlok.
"What should I do?" she cried. "Bappa, ab aap hi koi raasta dikhaayiye...!!!"

She heard someone coming there. She quickly wiped her eyes and face. It was Shlok. Without looking at him, Aastha began preparing her matress to go to sleep. Since the moment when Shlok had told her that he did not care whether she stays or leaves, Aastha was ignoring him. Those words had pierced through her heart breaking it yet again. Shlok was very restless since then. He was used to Aastha quarrelling with him. This silence was troubling him. He tried all ways to make Aastha speak, to make her angry, to irritate her... But he failed everytime. Aastha had completely detached herself from Shlok and this was not acceptable to him. He too somewhere felt bad that Aastha would be leaving. Sadness had gripped him. But he was not ready to accept or reveal his feeling towards her. And now that she was not at all talking to him, he sank deeper into sadness.

He looked at her lay there on the matress. He noticed her red swollen still beautiful eyes... He knew she loved him... He knew she did not want to leave... He just wanted to talk to her...
But Aastha did not want to get close to Shlok any more... because she knew very well that if she did, she would not be able to leave him...!

She was crying silently... Shlok knew it... He could feel her pain... He looked at her through the curtain... He just wanted to go hug her tight... and never leave her... But he did not... Something always stopped him from getting close to Aastha... That something he did not know... And it was that something which would lead to their seperation the next day... He just kept looking at her... There was pain in his heart... There always was... But he never expressed it! That something held back his emotions... Shlok wanted to break this thin wall of something... He could see beyond it... He could see how beautiful life was beyond... But he could never go beyond it... Something blocked him from reaching there... Something was killing him...

Aastha wished this night went on... She had only one night left now... Just one night... She wished the day never dawned... She was ready to live this night life-long... She just couldn't stop crying... She was feeling as if her life was over... She looked at Shlok. He was looking at her. Aastha felt like getting into his arms... She wanted Shlok to come and tell her that Aastha don't cry, don't worry... everything is gonna be alright... I am there with you and will always be... I am not letting you go away...
But that was not going to happen...
