Really sad to see that BV creative team has done no research on Leukemia or bone marrow transplant. My child has battled leukemia since age 3 and for 7 year before undergoing a Bone marrow transplant . It pained me Immensely to see the makers of my favourite serial attempt to cover this in issue in an ill informed way. It is also irresponsible as it is spreading incorrect facts for the sake of sensationalizing the story.

Here are some facts:
1.Post diagnosis of leukemia chemo regime is started immediately ... There is no other meds that can be given,, intense chemo brings the disease under control and then maintenance chemo continues.

2.Depending on the treatment protocol the chemo continues for 2.5 yo 3 years ...

3. A patient may relapse while on treatment or even after the treatment is over - like my child relapsed 3 times.

4. It is true that bone marrow transplant is the only and last option. However, parents are not natural donors. Siblings most likely can be a match but in many cases are not. There are donor registries and the patient can get unrelated donor. My child had a 10/10 unrelated donor. The story made no attempt to look for unrelated donor as this suited the story line.

5. Marrow donation needs a preparatory chemo and radiation process ... The patient us kept in a completely sanitized isolated room in the hospital. While the transplant itself is like a blood transfusion ( and not an operation) the patient is not discharged before 60 - 100 days. During this period a lot of post transplant complications are associated and the risk of the patient' slide is very high. The doctor dies not know whether the transplant was effective until atleast 30 dats till the new donor marrow is engrafted or accepted by the body

Here in the serial the doctor knows Mannu is ok immediately after the transplant and us even ready to discharge him.

It hurts ...really hurts to see such half hearted and callous representation of an illness which ravages families ... Takes away lives of beautiful little children,...all for the sake of the storyline and TRP.

I cannot bear to watch it any more. BV team you have let down all families of leukemia survivors and patients.

I completely agree with you.
While I didn't want them going into great details about chemotherapy and what patient undergoes when he is actually going through that chemo sessions because it is just too painful and gruesome to watch I expected them to show some details it would have been nice if the doctor explained about the chemotherapy for the benefit of the viewers.
I expected that they will tell that he is going through induction phase consolidation phase maintenance phase etc.and just explain them in one word to the viewers what those terms mean.
They did say that chemo failed and that's why they were going in for BMT.
But about the possible donors Since Mannu did not have biological siblings I expected them to say that they will go with one of the parents marrow because they are haplo match or expected them to suggest marrow registry. In fact I was expecting to go in for a surrogate to bear Ratan Ganga's child.I have seen parents of a child in need of BMT going in for a second child hoping they will get a matched donor in that second child.
But I guess they decided to take this example of a rare case of father being identical to son to add on the drama.
Again they could have just explained that they have to give conditioning therapy pre transplant,
.
So true the child does remain in hospital for almost a month before transplant marrow starts working.
They have to be kept in an asceptic environment because the BM Function is gone away and the child is vulnerable to infections. The child needs to be under close supervision for a long time.
Lastly there are only a handful centres in our country which can perform BMT.
Setting up a BMT centre is very expensive and also needs a lot of expertise. Lot of hospitals don't go for it because it is drain on the hospital economy.Jaitsar hospital doesn't have that kind of infra structure to support a BMT centre.
Also only Haematologists or in some cases oncologists can perform BMT.It requires specialised training.
I expected them to say a few words and explain to the viewers what the child is undergoing .It is obviously not possible to show the child being very ill and sick because the actor is very young and making him do those things may affect him and his psyche.
Creative licence is okay since they can't show these in great detail. But the phases of anti cancer chemo they could have explained in words. If not actually showing it.Then at least it would have looked authentic.
It is obvious they wanted to show how the illness affects the family which they have managed to show but they could have made more efforts to make it look more authentic.

I am very sorry to hear about your son.Hope he is doing fine now.
I can't even say I can understand how you feel.
Leukaemias are such difficult disease to treat and failure rate is higher than success rate that's why even many doctors in our country do not like to take up this speciality.Because it is just too painful to watch a child with cancer being taken away from this world even after one does everyhthing they can as a doctor.
I don't have any patients with cancer in my family but my friends are Haematologists I know how depressed they get when the treatment doesn't work and patient relapses.
A doctor who is no way related to the patient can feel so bad I can understand how much the child's parents go through.
Heard someone say that one of the family members of the of one of the creative team members had cancer and so expected a little bit of authenticity from them. But I guess in the battle between authenticity and bartlle for drama on screen authenticity lost it's battle.

@BVWatchet, as I read your post, I am choked with emotion.

As @Aparnauma mentioned, can't even say that I understand your hurt. I have seen the painful journey of one cancer patient in family but he was elderly and not suffering from Leukemia. So I didn't have much idea about the course of treatment and your post is an eye-opener for me.

Even I was very surprised when the doctor said Mannu is okay and even ready to discharge him.
Yes, creative liberty is to be accompanied with a responsibility to communicate right information.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

@ TM, sad to hear about your child, it is too painful to even think about it.
I always say that they just show anything without proper research. If they do not know the difference between a village and a district, how can we expect them to know and show things related to blood cancer properly. It is just a tearjerker drama for them, they do not care for the sentiments of people.

TM, extremely sorry to hear about your son our love, prayers and best wishes. Hope he is doing fine now. Really can't even say I understand how you feel. Aparna has said it all & explained in greater details from a Doctors perspective.
Thanks for such accurate details and complete & correct information!

Now coming to BV & their half baked ill informed facts abt Leukemia is very sad indeed. I know specially for people who have gone through this ordeal their blood boils at dramatization of such a touch medical decision. The shortcomings & inaccurate portrayal of BMT is indeed shocking for many. But so was the adoption track and Sanchi's court case.

BV picks up all the relevant social & medical problems. The issues are all very real & admirable. But the compelling content is never handled with complete reality & truthfulness. Maybe coz it is neither a ER or a Scrubs TV show.
All the tracks always originated from a real life situation that's it ...rest all is highly dramatized. Of course the constraints of TRP & half an hour is always there.

I'm sure people know that this is a social drama not a medical reality show with paragon of factual accuracy. So I guess its approach isn't verite. There will be drama in drama. In television, we like the characters to be very heroic & very dramatic. It shows us the human emotions and psyche when things go wrong how we all react to a situation. When Jagdish refused to marry Sanchi how the Shekhers reacted was more important than the case itself. Then in the Rape case how Vivek's parents are reacting & acting. Now in the Leukemia how the Singhs are all there for one another & on the other side how Rat pack is behaving & acting up. These tracks have given us an insight of various facets of human nature & psyche.

Even the present tack of Anandi with beggars & now with old-age home it shows her compassionate nature the social worker & helper is coming out quite well. But you & I we both know how hard it is to blow the lid off the begging racket...it requires a lot of planning ...it sure is not a days job as it was shown.

I'm not here to defend what is being shown just giving my POV on drama that is being dished out.

My sincerest prayers & good wishes for your son and for you & your family too.
Always remember miracle do happen and prayers have a great power!

I couldn't agree more! I was so disappointed to see how the CVs handled this leukemia track, I found it ridiculous how they just jumped to the conclusion that only Ratan could save Mannu when that is not the case at all! They could have at least tried to show Jagya's family being tested as a possible match but instead right away the assumption was no one would match, not even Mannu's brother and I don't remember anything being mentioned about putting Mannu on a donor list. It was completely unrealistic and was insulting to families like yourself who are actually living through having a loved one suffering from leukemia. I'm so sorry to hear about your son

Well, I enjoy these shows because they are so darn unrealistic that I don't feel like I need my brain to process what I'm watching. Everything is so fairy tale like 😛. I love happy ending so I get that in my fictional diet but we all know reality is crueler than fiction. 😭

This track is in just for a "high-adrenaline" rush & equally Rotten drama of Rat pack. We all knew nothing is going to happen to Mannu & next after all the Rattiness 😡 Mannu will remain with Singhs so chill. But for makers a social message & 50+ episodes.
I had read somewhere that in TV most patients survive after C.P.R., in reality C.P.R. saves lives just five percent of the time. TV docs and nurses often don't perform the technique correctly.

But recently while flipping channels I heard some guy was being applauded as he saved his brother's life & he confessed that he learned to do C.P.R by watching it on ER & he did just like they did in the show.
I would say freaking awesome! So TV does have some responsibility to show some truth & right procedures there has to be some truth to what one is faking.

@ bold; that is the bottom line. Well said. Yes creative liberty is acceptable and there has to be some, After all we are here for entertainment and not watching a real life medical case, rape case, beggers case etc.
Most of us like to see good winning over evil and justice done to all victims. Happy ending and cheerfulness in the lives of our heroic characters is the ultimate pleasure for audience.
However, Cvs can't be so unrealistic in the name of creative liberty, that audeince fail to connect completely.
The show looks unrealistic because most decisions our leads take are emotional decisions and not practical. That is what is upsetting.
As a viewer I am mostly happy with the way a track ends but not with the way it was executed to reach there
