CHAPTER 68 (C). ANTAKSHARI PART III

"Hello Mistaken!", chirped NK as he turned around the corner. Lavanya, who was seated on a window ledge looking out of the window at the singing and dancing going down, looked up at NK and frowned, "Excuse me?" NK smiled as he came near, "You said you are taken and you are a girl so Hello Miss. Taken!" La got the joke and she burst out laughing. NK looked at her stupefied. What a beautiful laugh! He wondered who was she? She was so beautiful. But then the only person he has not yet met is Lavanya, Arnav's fianc, so this can be her. Plus, she did say she is taken. He shrugged and joined her in looking out of the window.

After a while, NK spoke up, "Why aren't you down there?" La, who was looking out of the window with the saddest expression on her face, looked at him and smiled sadly, "I can ask you the same question!" Nk shrugged, "I am jet lagged! Just got up from a good bout of sleep! Now you answer my question!" La shrugged too, "Not in mood! Generally I love the cacophony and chaos but today mujhe us sab se door rehna hai!" Even though they were sitting in the house, they could hear every song sung outside clearly. Then she turned and looked at him quizzically, "What was your name you said?" NK smiled, "NK! From Australia! But my true name is Nandkishor!" La's eyes grew wide and a voice echoed in her mind, "Haayre Nandkisore!" and La burst out laughing again. NK frowned; itna bura bhi naam nahi hai! La calmed down and in between her giggles she spoke, "I am not laughing at you or your name. Have you met my Buaji?" NK frowned for a second and then shrugged. La controlled her laughter enough to reply him, "Meet her once and you will know why I am laughing!" And saying this, La lost her control against the laughter and started laughing again. NK was confused but he just shrugged and continued to stare at the laughing beauty in front of him.

Once Lavanya had calmed down, NK asked her, "So... What is your name?" La grinned, "Its Lavanya Kashyap, but I am called La!" NK nodded, "Nice name!" He got a beautiful smile in response. Few seconds passed and NK could not resist from speaking up, "But why are you looking so sad? You should smile and laugh, you will be getting married to your dream man in few days!" La looked at him amused, "Dream man? Seriously? That is so cheesy!" NK rolled his eyes, "Come on! Answer my question!" La huffed, "It is an arranged marriage and he is not my dream man!" NK frowned, "So? There is no reason for you to be so sad! Or... Oh no! You do not want this marriage to happen. You family forced you to marry him!" La shook her head amusedly, "Nope! No forcing! I accepted the rishta myself!" "Then what is the problem?", NK cried out. When La did not reply, NK spoke up, "See here lady! Speak up or suffer forever! Keeping a secret in your heart and letting it affect you this way is wrong! You have to tell your problems to somebody. If you can't tell it to others talk to me! I promise I won't judge you! You are forgetting that I am from Australia where we are very broad minded. So I really won't judge you. I will keep this secret in my heart and take it with me to the grave! Aur waise bhi ek Ajbani ko apni dil ki baat bataane se you will feel better!" La looked at him in confusion, "Ajbani?" Nk frowned, "Ajbani! Stranger!" La was tempted to burst out laughing again, "Oh... You mean Ajnabee!" Nk shrugged, "Whatever! Interested in telling me your story? Or do you prefer to sit and wallow here?" La thought for a while and then nodded, "Theek hai! I will tell you my story!"

It took Lavanya a while to get her story out but she did not leave any details. She told him how her boyfriend ditched her and left her broken hearted. And how she had agreed to marry hoping to fall for ASR but they have nothing between them right now. And how she can't back away from the wedding as it might destroy her whole life. As she completed her tale, few drops of tears fell out of her eyes and NK felt sad for her. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it trying to comfort her. She looked at him and smiled understanding his gesture. NK moved his hand away and spoke up, "You know my heart has been broken once in college too but I moved on. You can move on too. You just have let go the hurt and embrace your future!" Lavanya looked at him amusedly, "You think I haven't done that? Aap bhool rahe hain Mr. NK ki hum Hindustani ladkiyaan hai! Itni aasaani dil nahi deti aur jab deti hai toh phir peeche hat nahi paati! We don't date so many people, we are the one-and-done types!" NK thought about her words for a while and then spoke up, "Agreed Mistaken! But you should not ruin your life for one guy who dumped you so ruthlessly. Life had dealt you with crappy cards, now it is upto you whether you want to sit and cry over it or you want to take those cards and use it to your best." Lavanya looked pensive as she thought over his words. NK looked at her for a while and then made a promise in his heart; a promise to keep her smiling and laughing as long as he was in India.

Outside the game kept on going for a while and suddenly, the Khuranas were stuck with "V". It was a testimony of their fighting spirit that none of them groaned and just started to think about songs starting in V letter. Suddenly, Arjun started singing.

Outside the song ended with applause and inside the dance ended with laughter and merriment. Before La could recover NK excused himself and ran off. Confused by his departure, La sat down by the window and looked out as the Antakshari continued again. But her earlier sadness was gone and she kept on laughing as she thought of their idiotic dancing style. Soon the Antakshari continued and La enjoyed the songs and was foot tapping with them. Now that NK had elevated her mood with his dance, La was more eager to see what they would sing next and who will dance next. She smiled fondly as she thought of NK. Sweet guy!

When B came for Raizadas, Geet was all for singing Bairi Piya as that was what she was going through. Her Bairi Piya refused to understand her dil ka dard. But before she could start the song, Shyam started singing a song he used to love in his childhood.

Arnav was sure that Sheeshmahal had never seen or heard this much noise and cheers as it had heard today. And he was happy that his old house was being cleansed of the bad memories and was getting filled with good memories and thoughts. Infact, he was sure that whenever he will remember Sheeshmahal, he will not think of his parents' death and his sister's broken marriage but of meeting Khushi here, the family function they are and will be holding here and he was sure that even his wedding will turn into a memory of Sheeshmahal. He was brought out of his thoughts when "A" letter came on Khuranas and Aakash beside him booed and showed thumbs down to the opposite side. But Dev was not a kachcha limbu. He was a seasoned player of Antakshari and he proved it by singing the song and quieting the opposition.

All four looked at each other and nodded eagerly, happy to sing the song which they loved so much.

"Hello!", NK chirped and Lavanya whipped her head around to look at him. He smiled at her while holding two cups in his hands. She looked at them curiously and NK handed over one of the cups in his hand, "Ice cream for you and me!" Outside cheer rang as the song ended and the Antakshari started again. La smiled and took one of the cups and soon they were eating ice cream and chatting around. After a while, La asked, "Yeh kyun?" NK shrugged, "You were so sad. So I got this to cheer you up!" "So Sweet!", La mumbled and pulled NK's cheek. Her attention diverted to the ice cream and she did not notice NK place his hand on his cheek and looked at her dazedly.

Outside the Antakshari continued and the songs kept on going. The joy and cheer which spread around the Sheeshmahal was contagious and everyone enjoyed the evening. Then Raizadas turn came to sing a song from O". Most of the O songs were already sung. What was left? Again, Arnav's brain worked and he remembered a song he heard playing few days back in his brother's room. The reason the song stuck in his mind was because the lyrics went something like "O Heeriye Tenu Le Jaana Ai Gal Tu Man ch Basa" While Arnav was not well versed with Punjabi, he understood the words enough to understand that it resonated with what he wanted to tell Khushi! Plus Heer was the name Geet had given Khushi when Geet stayed at KM as Soni and Arnav could never forget that. Arnav smirked and whipped out his mobile and typed some words and hit the send button. Right in front of him, Khushi's mobile beeped and she read the message, "Next song from your Raanjha to his Heer!" Khushi's eyes widened. Hey Devi Maiyya! Ab yeh kya karne waale hain! She looked at Arnav with worry and fear.

While Khushi was worrying, Arnav eagerly whispered the song into Aakash's ears. Aakash looked at his brother incredulously, "Bhai! Aap aap hi hona? I mean you and songs..." The glare Arnav gave to Aakash was enough for him to realize that this was his brother as only Arnav could give a glare like that. Aakash turned back and pulled out his guitar. He started strumming it and started singing.

With tears streaming down her face, Khushi got up and ran off all the way to her room. Anjali frowned, "Khushiji ko kya hogaya?" Paayal smiled uneasily, "Shaayad thak gayi hogi!"Suddenly, Naaniji piped up, "Thak hi gayi hogi na! Itni der tak aapan sabhai aisan gaate bajaate rahoge toh! Bas hogaya yeh naach gaana! Khaana khaane chalo! Uu ka time hogaya hai!" Daadima nodded in agreement and most of the youngsters groaned. But soon all were up and about. As everyone walked of the lawn, Arnav grabbed Geet by her arm and dragged her to the side, "Sab theek hoga na? I did not pressure her too much, right?" Geet smiled at her brother tenderly, "Sab theek hoga AB! Use thoda waqt do! Itna aasaan nahi hai dard sehna jab aapke saamne aapka pyaar baitha ho aur aap unke paas bhi na ja sakein!" Arnav noticed Geet's sadness and gave her a side-hug as he realized that she is the only one who could truly understand what he was going through as she was going through the same.

1. Woh Dekhne Mein is from London Paris New York (Year 2012) picturised on Aditi Rao Hydari and Ali Zafar and sung by Ali Zafar. A very sweet song!

2. Badalon Mein is from Phir Teri Kahaani Yaad Aayi (Year 1993) Picturised on Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Roy and sung by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu. A truly melodious song!

3. Aankhon Se Tu Ne is from Ghulam (Year 1997) pciturised on Rani Mukherjee and Aamir Khan and sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. I am not even going to praise this song as anyone born or raised in 90's would have crooned this song once atleast!

4. O Heeriye is from Bewakoofiyaan (Year 2014) and is sung, written and composed by Ayushmann Khurana! A sweet and heart touching song!

For those who have forgotten the older chapters (which is possible coz I wrote the first chapter nearly two years back) here are the details about the older chapters I am referring to in the story.
