Hello Readers,we are aware of the newly formed 29th state of our nation, Telengana. The state is new but the idea behind its formation goes several decades back much before the existence of Andhra Pradesh. However,an incident of death of a revolutionary who was observing fast for establishment of a state on the basis of language compelled the then Prime Minister Nehru to pave the way for the creation of Andhra Pradesh. However the demand resurfaced and there has been constant struggle for demand of Telengana. Several lives have been lost in pressing for this demand. The central Govt since then has resisted the movements at times ruthlessly supressing the movement and sometimes by making false promises and pretensions to delay the demand. Some amount of pain and suffering in bifurcation was inevitable but a great deal of violence and acrimoinous feeling could have been averted had the central govt acted with more sensitivity and understanding of the hopes and fears of the people on two regions.
But finally the parliament passed the resolution for the set up of the new state amidst lot of drama on the floor of the house. We all must be knowing about the incident in lok Sabha when an MP of AP tried to defy the bill by spraying pepper spray and tearing the papers relating to the resolution. Such events in the parliament are no more sporadic. Every now and then we hear stories of bench throwing abusing and hampering the sesions of either Parliament or Assembly by our respected MPs and MLAs.
The pioneer of Telengana movement Mr K C Chandrashekhar Rao had led 11 days of fast that resuscitated the struggle and set the stage for the establishment of the state. The 14 years of prolonged struggle had made this state possible. The official date of birth of the state is decided as June 2nd of 2014. Now that the promise is fulfilled time has come to address the problem of the people of Seemandhara. The problem of unemployment, poverty, infrastrtucture and conflicts regarding sharing of resources as AP now is reduced to a residual state, needs to be fixed.
Andhra Pradesh is rightly termed as residual state since most of the water bodies and agricutual land have passed into Seemandhra region. There were speculations that Vizag might be made the capital of AP. Now there is an agreement that Hyderabad will remain the joint capital of both the states for coming 10 years.
With the formation of the state the curtain is drawn on a long struggle for statehood. The real challenge is ahead which is to meet the basic requirement of the people and settling the disputes and reallocating the resources. The creation of new capital for the residual state in no way limits the interest of the people of Seemandhra who have their stakes in the development of Hyderabad.
Whether the formation was right or not is debatable but for a common people like us, our interest lies in the betterment of the masses in general irrespective of regions they belong to. Hope and wish our Govt also acts on the same line.
