Is Kareena been over-praised for Geet of Jab we met ?

She sort of was. Geet was not a challenging character at all. I'm sure a bunch of other actresses could have played the role equally well. I loved everything about JWM and Geet but it was nothing extraordinary.

Kareena's performances in Omkara, Chameli and Dev were MUCH better and far more praise worthy. These characters were challenging and unique.

Loud and OTT characters aren't easy to play so yes she deserved the awards.

Mate - It's not easy to portray a character like Geet. It was an unique scenario here with her portrayal. Kareena made people like Geet. Jab We Met wasn't any extra ordinary love story, but Geet's character made that film one of the most memorable film of recent times. Also - Geet got correct amount of praise and not over-praised like Meghna or Silk who bagged national awards even

So I see this forums is following the trend of making everything look overrated

Anushka and Parineeti could have easily pulled off Geet like KKK did. How is Geet a unique role? Yes its a lovable character and KKK was fab but there's nothing unique or difficult about that role. Meghna and Silk were layered characters. There was more going on with these in terms of their troubled journey. Very few actresses can pull off such controversial roles well.

She did great. Its not easy to play such characters as you could end up hamming, but she made it look very believable.

we people like to think that drama and playing disabled characters etc are the toughest- and we totally under estimate the skills required in playing a usual role which can be equally difficult in fact even tougher as the chances of going over board are pretty thick!

any one who played that role especially like PC etc would have ruined it by going OTT! Kareena balanced the role beautifully and deserves all the praises she has been getting.

That's the problem with BW in general.They think that only playing intense roles and disabled characters is good acting
