I have a Mausi called Madhu, who lives in India and she is a psychiatrist by profession and a very successful one too.
She's very fond of TV and would know more about the soaps than many of us.
I asked her yesterday regarding Madhubala she says that many yrs back when there was only Doordarshan they would all sit around the TV waiting for Chitrhaar and after one week of waiting they'd get to watch one stupid song after another and what made them watch the whole programme was the hope that the next song would be worth the while but the Doordarshan guys are a sadist lot with a political bend so
if the weather was not good
or
if the programmed director had a fight with his wife
or
if the shoe shine boy outside the Doordarshan office polished his colleagues shoes before his.
or
Mr.Aiyer got his promotion before Mr.Chaddha
etc etc the songs would be according to the mood.
so if you didn't die of waiting the whole week you would die of the choice of songs.
But watch ???you had to !
Similarly,
Madhu Mausi says she has started watching the other TV serial before and after Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon,
She takes a break from her sofa ,removes her specs,at 8.30PM and once in a while glances over her shoulder hoping for some excitement (like the chitrahaar songs) but so far she says that its like visiting the grocery stores which is so boring, you know you have to buy the vegetables and the breads etc
can you "switch off" from the chore ?
No
Can you hope for some adventure and excitement ?
Yes
So she hasn't given up.
I told he of the chance of RK returning.
She was very excited then I asked her which role would suit him,she said that's the problem of the creatives, they didn't ask us before the leap so how should we know, all we need to tell them that this dumb track is not working.
Statutory Warning : This post is not meant for those who are enjoying the show post leap but they are welcome to read the post and comment as its a free country but if they use abusive and poor expressions I hope that the forum moderators will check them.

The problem is that with every passing episode the hopes of 'excitement' are dwindling. MB's progression in my case at least was like that:

Stage 1 Before the Heroine track: Don't change the channel even for a second while watching. Shoo away anyone who dares to disturb. If due to some exigency the show has to be missed, see it online.

Stage 2 Last 2-3 months before RK's death: Keep the remote in hand. Watch Mahabharat during certain scenes and breaks. Talk to people while watching. If show is missed then read the Written update

Stage 3 Since RK's death: Start watching Mahabharat. Switch to MB for a few seconds during breaks or boring scenes to check if anything worth watching is going on. See what is being shown, shake your head and go back to the previous show i.e Mahabharat. Conveniently miss the show for any unimportant thing like chatting up with someone on phone. Don't bother to read the WU.😆

The way things are going, soon those few seconds of watching too will disappear.😆

You are so right Poluk !
I love the stage 1,2 and 3 and I'm sure Mahabharat would be really cool.
Very well written :)
