"Bhai where are you trying to go?" Riya asks. "Why do you care? Now let me go," I say, moving past her. "Bhai, ab haldi lag chuki hai, aap ghar se bahar nahi jaa saakte aur nahi aap Antara se mil saakte hai," she says.

"Antara bhabhi kaho, shaadi hone waali hai humari. Aur yeh stupid rasam kis ne baanai hai? Mujhe Antara se milna hai," I say. "Mom, tell bhai to stay home," she shouts. My mom comes and says, "Raghu, you can't meet Antara, now come, eat something." "But mom," I say. "No means no Raghu, now come." I sigh and follow her. This was going to be one long day.

Now I knew how Payal Di felt on the day of her haldi. I was so anxious to meet Raghu but I knew I couldn't. I remember that day, I was the one telling Payal Di and Ishaan jeeju that they couldn't meet and now I was in the same situation. I was sure though that Raghu was much more desperate than me but what could I do? Traditions are traditions, they are not meant to be broken!

"Antara, uss haldi ne toh tumari khoobsurati aur bhi baraadi," my mom says as she brings in my dress for the mehndi. "Mumma," I say getting up and giving her a hug. "Kya hua beta?" she asks. "Mujhe aap ki bahut yaad aai gi," I say. "Antara, rona baand karo," she says, wiping my tears away. "Hum sab ko bhi tumaari bahut yaad aai gi, par tum ek aise parivaar mein jaa rahi ho jisme sab tumse bahut pyaar karte hai. Aur jab tak Raghu tumare saath hain, tab tak sab theek hoga. Raghu hamesha tumara khayal rakhega." "Jaanti hoon Mumma," I say. "Ab chalo, jaldi se tayaar ho jao, Rukhsana abhi tumari mehndi le kar aa rahi ho gayi," she says. "Ji," I say.

I pick up the dress that mom had put on my bed. It was a simple pink and green lengha but it was still beautiful. I quickly changed and put on minimal jewelry and light make up. It was the last function. Tomorrow I would be Raghu's wife. "Antara, chal, Mom tujhe neeche bula rahi hai," Arjun says. "Haan main abhi aa rahi hoon," I say. I look at myself in the mirror one last time and then go down stairs.

"Mehndi mein kiss ka naam likhna hai?" the lady asks me. "Antara, nahi sorry, bhabhi toh bhai ko bahut saare naam se bulati hain. Jaise yeda, idiot, stupid, aur kabhi kawar Raghu bhi bulati hain. Bhabhi aap decide karo, aap ko yeda likhwana hai ya Raghu," Riya says, giggling. "Raghu, uss ka naam Raghu hai," I say. He was Raghu, my Raghu.

"Chal Raghu, yeh le," Ranveer says handing me a glass. "What is it?" I ask. "It's just some beer, come on, it's your last night of freedom," he says. "No thanks, I don't drink. And besides, I like to think of tonight as my last night without Antara. We're finally getting married tomorrow," I say, putting the drink back on the table. "As you wish," he says. I pick up my phone from the table. It's 7. I go out of the room and call Antara, hoping that she will pick up.

"Hello," I say as I hear someone pick up. "Tum ne phone kyun kiya? Koi problem hai?" she asks. "Kyun main tujhe aise phone nahi kar sakta? Apni jaan ko miss kar raha tha," I say, sitting down on the couch in the living room. "Raghu, meri mehndi ki rasam hai aur mere haathon pe mehndi lagi hui hai," she says. "Tu phone pe kaise baat kar rahi hai phir?" I ask. "Teri mehndi kharab nahi ho jayi gi?" "Bhai, phone speaker par hai," I hear Riya say. I stand up. Oh no. "Umm, Antara main tujhse baad mein baat karta hoon, bye," I say and hang up.

"Yeda," I mutter under my breath as he hangs up. "Bhabhi, lagta hai ki Bhai se ab aur intezaar nahi ho ra," Riya says. I blush even more as Riya goes on and on about what Raghu was saying. Eventually I zone out and start thinking about Raghu. What would our life be like after we got married? I didn't know, but I remembered what my mom had said earlier. As long as Raghu was with me, nothing bad could ever happen to me. I was sure of that. Nothing could ever happen to Raghu, me or our love.

That was embarrassing, I think as I walk back into my room. I should have remembered, Antara wouldn't be alone tonight. But here I was, all alone. Don't worry Raghu, it's your last night with out her. Tomorrow she'll be with you. Tomorrow, you'll be do dil...ek jaan, forever and ever.
