Suchitra Pillai plays Sushmita Sen's confidante in Viveck Vaswani's upcoming film

In the big league: Suchitra Pillai
Suchitra Pillai may have done small roles in Bollywood flicks (Dil Chahta Hai, Shiva, Pyar Ke Side/Effects), but now the actress-singer-anchor (all rolled into one!) has landed herself a significant role in Viveck Vaswani's Dulha Mil Gaya.

The film, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen and Fardeen Khan, has Suchitra essaying the role of Sushmita's right hand person — so
wherever there is Sush, there is Suchitra!

Only you

"Yes, there is something substantial to do in Dulha Mil Gaya," says Suchitra, who recently shot for three weeks at Mehboob Studios, Bandra in Mumbai.

"I play a character who knows everything about Sushmita; she is her confidante. It was an amazing experience working with both Sushmita and Shah Rukh. We all had such a good time."

Apparently, Vaswani had chairs with every actor's name written on it on the sets, so each one had to sit on earmarked chairs only and no where else! Suchitra was cast in Dulha Mil Gaya because of director Mudassar Aziz (writer of the Sush-starrer Zindaggi Rocks), who only wanted her for the role.

"I was planning a trip to America and almost did not take it up, but then the tour didn't happen and I was part of Dulha Mil Gaya. I took it as a big compliment as Mudassar thought of me for the role."

Dulha Mil Gaya, being presented by telly actor Anuj Saxena's Maverick Productions, is about relationships and realising the value of true love, as the title's tagline reads: 'Say yes to a relationship'.

The unit leaves for an outdoor schedule in the West Indies in early May. "We will be shooting in Trinidad and I will also be part of it," informs Suchitra.

Incidentally, Suchitra also features in Pradeep Sarcar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, being produced by Yash Raj. "But it's a small role," she points out. Her two other projects — Kamal Sadanah's Karkash and Rajshri Ojha's Postcard — are on the festival circuit.

Multi-tasking

Apart from acting, Suchitra is also pursuing her musical aspirations. One of her songs, Yaara, has been used as a background track in the Hollywood production Marigold.

"I am recording three more tracks and then I will do the rounds of music companies to cut an album. I have penned the lyrics with music by Ashish Painoli."

On the floorboards, Suchitra features in Ashvin Gidwani's Mad About Money (in both its Hindi and English version) and in Lillete Dubey's Dance Like A Man.
