Jodha's doesnt take it off may be its difficult to pin up and taking it off may mess her hair.

Ok thanks, yes actually Moti also wears it. Then it must be just some ornament.

I was confused because it is called Maang-tikka, thanks for clarifying.

@ Abhay: Let me answer the Question here 😃

Well, the maang-tika is a sign of "Shubhta" ...i.e. auspicious for Women, but not necessarily married ones😊.
It is similar to the beliefs in certain parts of India like:

1.Girls should not keep ears empty
2.Girls should not keep their forehead barren
3.Girls should not keep their hair open without Knot in public and after Sunset.

All these customs are related to auspiciousness and wellbeing of the Girl-child and her family( or so is believed)😊
However, The toe-ring or Bichhiya , the MangalSutra ,The Nowa, The Nath and Sindoor...All These are specific to Married women...And are considered as symbol of husband being Alive.😊

Hope this helps in clearing the air about the attire and Shringaar as shown in serial and followed in reality.

Regards,
Kamal

Thanks for your detail reply and clarifying my question. Jodha always wears this so I wondered.
Thanks again.

Thanks so much for posting this, i just came across this and it was so helpful.
What i fail to understand is why people keep saying that Ruqaiya was Akbar fovourite Queen and Jodha or HK was just the MUZ, when this is simply not true, There had to be some strong feeling if not love between these two because Jodha was given position and power which has nothing to do with her Becomming MUZ.
If we forget the internet and read some books about these two, we are given much more fact and a clearer picture of the true relationship between Akbar and Jodha or HK.

Abhay, few questions 😆 (take your time to answer 😉)
You said in Mansi's post harem was under Salima and HK, but then what was Ruqaiya's importance as a first wife ? You once mentioned she was influential on political matters but to which extent ? or she got power during Nur Jehan's reign ?

I am transferring this conversation to this thread..!..😊
This is regarding REAL RUQAYYA BEGUM..!..

How was the REAL Ruqayya dear.. 😊
Would like to know your esteemed opinion. 😊

Originally posted by: Sandhya.A

AbhayWhy so much sarcasm? Even books mention Ruqaiya as a chief begum always and even fables and stories (even Akbar Birbal) mention of Akbar being completely at ease and fond of Ruqaiya.
When Mirza Hakim whom all history books claim was a thorn in Akbar's life
is portrayed good naturally we think ruqaiya is portrayed evil for the sake of drama.

I completely agree with you that in history nothing can be accepted till written in an authentic source and nothing can be claimed false till it is again specifically stated so. It was one of your statements in your initial threads that I loved a lot.

Could you please tell us how the real ruqaiya was . Was she this cheap and akbar forgave her just because she was his friend and cousin? While I have always believed in hk and her importance in Akbar's life , and personally find it depressing at history having omitted her, I certainly don't believe (as usual) that every other wife was scum ( other than salima). Do correct me if I am wrong.

Again coming to the serial I am still stuck to the smiley version that impressed me a lot. She was an interesting grey character. She was quite royal charming and totally incapable of such cheap behavior as lavina does. The see saw of characters is irksome. But when the leads have been subjected to worse extremes this is again to be expected. 😕

Sandhya,
Did this appear sarcastic..?😲😕
I could not think of a more courteous comment to ask my question.😊
I am answering with respect to, the bold points above..😊..

Anyways, i posted my comment on that thread to ASK not ANSWER😉😛, about the REAL Ruqayya Begum..!..

Because, i thought, seeing the WAVE in the forum regarding Ruqayya that she was a very dignified princess, and innocent, etc. and it is the CV's who are degrading her. 😕
So, i thought of asking about her . (Just out of curiosity.) 😊.

**********************************************************************************************************

I have NEVER compared the 3 queens of Akbar till now.😊
(Coz i did not LIKE doing so.)

But, since you have mentioned this statement, so OK, i am answering this.
What i have read is that:

Mariam-Uz-Zamani was the Principal queen of Emperor Akbar.
Ruqayya Sultana Begum and Salima Begum were the senior queens.

Hope this clears the issue of who was what.😊
I am NOT giving references deliberately..!..

Moreover, the titles of
1. Begum Sahiba (It WAS a title, NOT any NORMAL word, as they use in the SHOW. 😕)
2. Queen Mother of Hindustan (I have written before)
3. Wali Ni'maat ( meaning, Blessing of Allah/Saint )
4. Mariam Uz Zamani, etc. were with HK.😊

Also, there are stories prevailing about Ruqayya Begum. Check this link for another check:😊
https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/101908269

**********************************************************************************************************

If you feel that Mirza Hakim was a thorn in Akbar's life THROUGHOUT from STARTING. Then, here is a piece of reality check. Read this. 😊

After reading this it will be clear that if you are using the rationale that, since Hakim is shown as a well-wisher of Jalal(which you feel is wrong😕), and hence you are using similar logic to DEDUCE that CV's are portraying Ruqayya in a wrong sense, then this comment will clear some doubts.

The problem here is PRE-ASSUMPTION, regarding a character without knowing completely about it.😊 Sorry, but i am NOT GOING TO WRITE about Real Ruqayya Begum NOW, but would like to know why ALL feel she is degraded..😕..

Note:
The following incidents are NOT given in Akbarnama of Abu'l Fazl, but the so-called Gov. authentic archives. (So, believe it or NOT, i am writing here, and this will only be proved when it comes on the show.😊)

Abhay another small Q
Is there anything in your research that suggests that Jalal-Mirza Hakim had good relations at the start and they were soured & Hakim turned against Jalal due to some reason

Originally posted by: history_geek

Yes Maddy,

Got something which proves that Jalal and Hakim had good relations in starting. Jalal appointed Munim Khan as Hakim's regent, when he sensed some danger to Hakim, in 1563.

Also, their relations began to turn sour (this is starting) when Hakim in 1564 after his mother's death, married his sister to some Hussain, without any consultation, with anyone. This sister was earlier married to Abul Maali. (Hope you remember Abul Mali is killed already by this time). Actually, at that time Jalal had appointed Muhammad Quli Khan to take care of Hakim, since his mother had died , Abul Maali killed her. Hakim did not ask Quli Khan, before this marriage. And, Hussain, due to his raised status began to trouble Quli Khan, and so Quli Khan left Kabul, and informed Jalal of all this. Though Jalal did not take any strong action against Hakim. (may be before this some other event happened, but i could search this event only which left a bad taste.!.)

BTW, Hussain was a descendent of Bahaudin Bukhari, a saint who found the Sufi order of Nakshabandi, in 14th century.

Point to be noted is :
Hakim is doing all these masterstroke 'karnamas' at age of 10-11, only.😉
😲

Just wait and watch, what this Hakim will do further. Imagine at age of 10-11 he is doing all this.!.
Isn't this strange.?

More info on Mirza Hakim, in detail.

Aanchal,

Valid Question..
Right now, both Jalal and Jodha are around 20, and Hakim is 10-11.!.
As far as marriage is concerned, "none of us TILL NOW", got any info regarding marriage talks of Hakim and Shivani..
Don't go by age of Hakim. He will attack Jalal in 1565, at age of 12 ONLY...!!..And, advance in East Punjab after besieging Lahore...!..Both brothers were warriors from early age..!..

Ekta could have chosen a guy of less age for Hakim. Anyways, right now, few things are not clear. Since, in reality also there were minor uprisings in Chanderi, near Gwalior from 1562 to 63, and generals were sent there, but who was sent, not sure. Trying best, to dig everything. Akbarnama does NOT gives these events.

:)

**********************************************************************************************************
I hope above comment clears that Jalal and Hakim had a very good relation in starting.😊
SO, what they are showing is NOT wrong, as per initial relations of the brothers.
**********************************************************************************************************

I have read MANY comments on many threads, and it seems all are holding CV's responsible for Ruqayya's portrayal.😕

So, want to know, Why people feel so..?..
If they feel so, they must be knowing something about the REAL ONE...!!... 😊

I can ALSO ask questions..😉
It's NOT that i am here ONLY to answer..😃..

If people feel her 'SUCH' portrayal is for PROVING🥱 the LOVE story of AKDHA, then it's wrong.😆. There are ENOUGH evidences and means to do so.😊

CV's can also follow a simple method of showing the "Bachpan ki Dosti" of Ruqlal, and side by side show, Akdha's "Prem Katha".😊 Infact, by showing friendship and prem katha simultaneously, they can better justify the Akdha story...!!!...(This is contrary to majority of opinions..!...)
But, if someone was LIKE THAT, what can CV's do.?.😕..
(Don't question me for this statement PLZ. Find yourself...😊..Though, it will take efforts...)...

Moreover, if someone says why MA is shown in this manner, then -->>🥱...(i saw a comment saying MA is "deliberately" shown like this..)😕

After all the problem here is the concept of LOGIC and common-sense😕, withOUT keeping some facts in MIND.!.
Pre-conceived opinions are given preference OVER existing facts. 😕..

ALSO, For the forum, following were FALSE TRACKS,... but they were TRUE:

1. Mulla Bekashi / Duplicate was a FALSE track. But, It was True.

2. Vishkanya was a False track. I remember, before posting, what was the STRONG NEGATIVE opinion of the forum about this track. Btw, you know, now, about it.

3. I was going through some OLD threads, where people gave comments that, the Paronkh WAR was a fake one to degrade Jalal🤢, and glorify Jodha and her family.🤢. People even questioned that the war was showing Shahenshah in bad light, and where was the Mughal Army.?.😕 Sometimes, i feel, what to reply to some comments🥱, --> coz sometimes they are "claimed" to be written on ACTUAL history, based on "HAWAI" assumptions..🤓..

Even in actual history Jalal fought with 200 soldiers against 4000 dacoits. The only difference was -> Jalal used elephant also and a relative of Raja Bharmal was killed in this war. So, if CV's wanted, they could have used "more drama element" against Jalal and in support of Jodha and family.😕.But, they DID NOT..!!..😊

Afterall, WE post to share our findings, as we like this interaction..😊...
We can NOT post everything,😊 when it is AUTOMATICALLY perceived it to be false, in "ADVANCE" .🥱

*********************************************************************************************************

Btw, a thought for future, What if in future, Gulbadan Begum, also shows similar signs.?.😲😉

(I know and i am expecting more posts of similar type, bashing CV's...😕🤢..!.. Don't ask me.😊.Trying finding about her also ..😃..)

Also, i do agree with your LAST line, about the extreme treatment which happens sometimes in the characterization, 👍🏼 but i NOT at ALL agree that CV's are ruining Ruqayya's image "TOTALLY"..😊..Find it..!..

If they portray someone in a particular manner, they make the character based on actions of that person. Afterall, why is Akbar called a great king..??.. Because, we have seen his actions in form of reforms, etc. etc. So, just try to do a similar exercise for her also..😊

Also, when Jalal and Jodha were shown in a deplorable manner, people called up Zee (though i know, about the effectiveness of this exercise.!.).. But, if you feel that they are doing injustice to a historical personality, then CALL them...Aanchal has given the number to many people here.😊.

One more thing, if everything was available so easily, a research of 2.5 -3 years, would not have been required. Have a thought, about the portrayal of Ruqayya Begum. 😊

Here i would mention a comment by a member, where she mentioned --> "History is NOT going to be re-written here.."...This was wrt Ruqayya Begum..!..I do agree..

They are NOT taking her portrayal for a TOTAL ride .!!.

Finally, end here, by mentioning that,

She had streaks of a GREY character (not at all like MA),
Felt insecure,
and was seen after Power / auhda .
She will be the same, especially see her, after Nur Jahan's entry.😉

(
Will post in detail sometime later.
I cannot write EVERY ACTION of hers NOW..!..
Please read yourself.
😃 Researching is a great exercise.😉😕.!.
)

Take 1 action:

Khurram(Shah Jahan), was given to Ruqayya, for initial upbringing, but what she did was -->
She restricted his meeting hours with his actual mother, Jagat Gosain, despite her requests.😕
Jagat Gosain was somewhat like HK.😉

And, the reason supplied is:
1. To keep him away from his mother's culture.😕
2. Insecurity.🥱

What this shows...???. I don't THINK i should say it to be a Royal dignified ACT...!!..

**********************************************************************************************************

Coming to the show, some things erked me a lot like the act of that baandi yesterday in DeK could have been more courteous, and yes the execution is a thing of concern, sometimes.

I hope Sandhya, above reply cleared many of your concerns.😊...
Infact, this was a general REPLY..!..
Now, i end this answer here..!!...

************************************************************************************************************

@ OTHERS
Whenever i log in, have to first reply to many questions.!. 😕
This is turning to be a tough job now.😉😕.
Note: Please don't ask me more about Ruqayya Begum. I won't be able to write more.😊

Abhay thanks for making this post.
I do believe Rukayya would not have welcomed with open arms the Begum, who replaced her in Jalal's affections, rather changed him so much he became Jodha's Akbar.

I think it was made clear that JA serial is about the human side and relationships.

Even archives would not be giving all the information about some intensely personal matters. Not to forget the writer's views might be coloring the events.

I always feel even though it might not be written in texts, MA truth might have come in front of Jalal and since it made him look bad for believing in her so much, might not be written openly.

I have come to believe the posts you, Kamal and Lizzy write as truths.

As for the portrayal of dasi's behavior in DEK yesterday, the actress and director at fault, her body language was totally wrong, similarly new Moti is not a patch on old Moti.
