Prabhas Ji, I am British and I know about the British empire very well and how ruthlessly countries under the Empire were treated. However, things are a lot different today. How can you blame Britain for the fact that Indian actors don't have a voice? It seems a little bit unreasonable to me. I think that India has a lot less freedom of speech compared to the West. Whilst, I think too much freedom is given here in Britain and people are exploiting it and the British economy is collapsing due to this, but in India too little freedom is given and I think to blame Britain today for this, is a little bit unreasonable... sorry to have opposed you and I am not being disrespectful but, I am British. I realise the atrocity of the Empire and the treatment of nations under it. I love India with all my heart, but when the British are unreasonably blamed, I guess I become patriotic because at the end of the day, I am British
Sorry but this topic was not to degenerate into a Britain bashing per se as this was not the intent, even remotely. It means i am taking you back to 1947 and am talking of what the british did then and not the progress or regress that Britain or the British have made... I travel the world and you can call me a global citizen and am aware of many cultures, quite intimately acquainted with them. I am also deeply respectful of all cultures. .
Even today, in many indian offices you will find the "sir" culture... and the "sir" is always right. One of the reasons for what india is today is there is no emancipation or freedom or openness of the mind yet... For example, in my own company, and i head a company, when i ask a young engineer as to why he did a particular work in a certain way, he tells me that "his boss" asked him to do so!! Nothing can make me go mad as such as statement can! I then go on to explain to this young engineer what it means to be a professional and what is expected of him.
Same with movie stars and actors, I expect them to question the system and not fall a trap into the wiles and guile of so called people in high places and just do as they are told.. the audiences adore them, give them praise, put them on a pedestal. They owe something back to the audiences and that is what i want to highlight.
I think the only one actor, in India, that comes to mind who questions the role is probably Amir.Khan .. on TV i have not heard of any one who has the guts to do it, question what is going on and why it is going on...
