| | | | Forging ahead: Aishwarya Rai | A large section of the Hindi film industry is miffed with the Bachchans and the Rais for not inviting them to the grand wedding last week.
While most are scared to voice their displeasure, HiTLIST met some non-filmi people — the Jhaveris, the Bhojwanis and the Bhatts — who are open about their displeasure.
These people are from a building called Ram Laxmi Niwas (16th Road, Khar) where Ash spent her childhood.
Lucky few
Aishwarya considers Ram Laxmi Niwas lucky, hence mother Vrinda Rai has still not sold their fourth floor flat there.
So far, Ash has always shared important events in her life with the residents of the building.
That is, until her recent wedding to Ashishek Bachchan. A visit to the building reveals that only two families — the Chimnanis and the Desais — were invited.
| | | left behind: Ram Laxmi Niwas at Khar | Maya Chimnani, who is Ash's former neighbour, says she and the Desais attended all the celebrations on April 18, 19 and 20.
"Ash didn't invite us personally, but we got the invitation card.
We were treated very well and even met the Bachchans.
Vrinda comes to this house often, and we are very much in touch."
Great expectations
However, the Jhaveris, who live on the third floor, say they're very disappointed that the Rais did not invite them.
"We were expecting an invitation. Vrinda had invited us for (son) Aditya's wedding, so we thought we would go for Ash's shaadi too."
The Bhojwanis on the second floor are equally vocal. "Ash invited the Desais because Mr Desai is the plot owner and her father is the building secretary. Moreover, Vrinda is very close to the Chimnanis.
Since we had gone for Aditya's wedding, we were expecting to go for Ash's wedding too," says Mrs Bhojwani.
The maid at the Bakhrus' second floor flat reveals that they did not attend Ash's wedding either.
Mrs Bhatt, who is the Bakhrus' neighbour, demands to know where and when Aishwarya claimed that Ram Laxmi Niwas was lucky for her. Her daughter makes a face and says 'Ugh' when she learns that we want to know if the Rais invited them.
All said and done, it seems it's a sheer case of 'who cares about childhood memories? I am Mrs Bachchan now.' Right Ash?
