I really love this show, but I dislike how the Bhalla's are portrayed on the show. I am Punjabi myself, and I really dislike how they try to make this stereotype of them drinking, and being so loud. Punjabi's aren't like that at all, it kind of makes them look bad. How they show Mrs Bhalla drinking and her daughter drinking alcohol is nothing how Punjabi's are. It's actually looked down for girl's to be drinking in the Punjabi community. They show Mrs Bhalla acting nuts, and it's such a bad depiction of Punjabi's.

It made me so mad when they showed Mrs Bhalla drunk at their engagement, and dancing and singing boliyaan loudly while everyone looked at her like she was stupid. No one I know Punjabi acts like that, they are well mannered people. I know they aren't saying all Punjabi's are like that, but it's kind of offensive to see and then see Mrs Iyer saying "Oh look at how these Punjabi's act" and Punjabi people don't act that way. It's kind of offensive to see at times for me. I really like the show a lot, but they go way overboard with the way Mrs Bhalla acts, and they show her drinking suggesting that's how Punjabi's are.

Does anyone else feel that they depict Punjabi people a little wrongfully?

these shows are meant to entertain. I don't think people want to see boring depictions of everyday life in a normal family. I am not a punjabi and watching the show has not made me feel that all punjabis will be like the bhalla family. So I would just enjoy the show while the going is good.

I agree it is about The Bhalla's but I feel like they over-do it sometimes. I also don't like when Mrs Iyer says "Those Punjabi's", she should say their name directly. Cause then it sounds like she's talking about all Punjabi's.

i dunno abt punjabis but this show depicts south indians also in a wrong way sometimes...not only this show any show which i have seen till now they describe a southindian with a dhoti and wearing a white bindi on forehead be it from any south state the description is same... like even a person from karnataka is shown to have wearing a dhoti and white waala on forehead and speaking in a tamil slang...

i think they first need some proper understanding and exposure as what south india is...enuf coz i have already drifted from topic

Ermm.. They are Punjabis.
At least its better than having four states grouped under the term "Madarasis"

I don't think that only Punjabi ppl are shown that way. Even tamilians... Tamilians do eat a lot apart from Idli. Bharatanatyam is not the only dance form to be shown in a sangeet. Many tamil words they use are so stupid. Like Ishitha said 'sethu po' (go and die) and 'saniyan to Raman. Tamilians don't talk like that. Especially a wife to a husband. It is just for entertainment... Nothing offensive against punjabis or tamilians... 😊

I fact I love how the Bhallas have been portrayed! Love how they are full of life! Why should we apply what they show in serials to the whole of our community? They are just one instance of each shown here and we should refrain from applying it to totallity of any culture... Why not just enjoy the serial as something fictional... Kindly don't get affected by what is just serial is my only request. 😊
