I've been watching Indian television since I was around 12, and very few shows have failed to impress me. I cannot stand the labeling of women as 'weaklings' who are confined to kitchen politics and homemaking.

However, in 2011, I found a show and it touched me more than words can describe. I never thought I'd ever be refreshing desi-tashan on a daily basis to watch new episodes after that said show ended.

But 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' did it.

And every hat I own goes off to Ekta Kapoor.

A couple of my friends told me about this show... and I decided to give it a shot during my long weekend. Imagine my surprise at finding myself actually wanting to watch episodes after more than an entire year of ignoring my television set.

The strength of Ishita is the most refreshing thing I've seen in Indian entertainment in a very long time. To see that love is not only confined to be between a man and a woman. That the love between a mother and her daughter can be just as pure and beautiful. That a woman can marry to become a mother before a wife. That there is more to love than eye locks and shy glances and serving him hot tea. That a stranger's child can change a woman. And a woman's love for her daughter can change a man. That characters can be realistic and flawed... yet still strike a chord with an audience.

I just wanted to say, there's a fan out here in Boston who is loving this show and wishing it well. It may not mean to me what the other show I mentioned did, but it has touched me deeply regardless. More than I thought any show will. I hope Ekta keeps this stellar story line going and inspires Indian audiences that there is more to our women than sobbing into their pallus and being under the constant pressure of bearing children.

It's a shame that the Star Plus nuns have so little confidence in this pathbreaking show that they have chosen to keep it at the 11 PM time slot. Because with all due respect to them, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein deserves to be the next big thing on TV more than anything else.

I hope this doesn't offend anybody. I just wanted to share my genuine appreciation for the show with those who agree.

Wishing it only the best and the growing audience it deserves.

The only show im watching since my last favourite(IPKKND) ended is this!!YHM is getting me back to my addicted days!!

It's not surprising that people are loving this show, because it is INDEED AMAZING!! And seems like there is perfection in the story, the dialogues and even acting!! Only a few shows can genuinely make you cry and feel the emotions!!

Even im annoyed with the 11pm timing, but seems like ekta had requested for the 11pm slot. She said so during the launch!!

IPKKND is the show I was talking about as well 😆

Oops! Then I take back my word. SP does tend to be conservative with what they broadcast, but if Ekta has specifically requested this time slot, I have nothing to say and am wrong to target the channel. 😊 I truly wish she hadn't though, but I guess she had her own reasoning. Many people I've talked to who want to watch the show cannot because they need to tuck their kids in bed or get ready for work the next day.

Well said aamir.

Actually, this show is quite like our real life. In real life, women don't always cry, they fight back if needed. Even then, the fact you told about love, yeah, in reality, love is not like the TV shows show always. It's more genuine and matured in real life. And, YHM is showing this maturity. For this I have given Ekta credit many times, but now also giving once more.

Well said, a lot of people have been bashing Ishita based on the fact that she's gullible etc. But I personally find her to be a very strong and level-headed female protagonist who shows her strength only when needed. A woman who stays quiet in front of her husband/in-law's abuse is not one I can tolerate. And so far YHM has shown the power of women in that sense. Be it Mrs.Iyer or Mrs.Bhalla protecting their families. The same goes for Ishita. She sacrificed love and a chance at a fulfilling marriage for the sake of a child, and that is commendable. Her flaw may be that she doesn't see logic when it concerns Ruhi, but that is normal for a mother. What I like most is that she isn't a feminist on steroids either that some serials try. Some serials try so hard to make the woman strong that it falls flat. She knows when to say what, she gages the situation and reacts. I haven't watched an Indian soap in a very long time for the very reason. I like the mature storyline and realistic characters. I hope that Ekta does not ruin this show with leaps and nonsense villains as she has done in the past. Keep Ishita's character strong!

Hey! :)

I remember you from the IPK forum, I used to read your posts and one shots! :) Idk if you remember me or not haha, but yes I totally agree with you! Yeh Hai Mohabbatein has been the only show to reach that level of crazyness I had for IPK. It's the only show that's sensible and realistic as of now on Indian Television! :) and I'm glad there a lot of IPK fans over here its nice to see you on this forum as well :)

Superb post! :)
Ye hai Mohabbatein is a unique love story of a woman and a child which eventually would create ground for the development of love story between a woman and man who r bounded to be together just for a child!
I just love this show n it's distinctiveness in portraying different relationships on the screen! :)

YHM is a really different story... and I hope Ekta keeps the story interesting and doesnt wander away from the main story line.. This is the only show that i watch now after the Colors show "Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha"...I am so happy that Ruhi finally got the love of a mother...i now just wish that Raman throws his baggages away as soon as possible and rejoin the prettiest and most lovable mother-daughter duo..
For the TM, if you want to watch another different love story, watch the above mentioned serial too, Season 1...it has a very beautiful relation between a man and a child,,,and i am sure you would appreciate that too...

greta post...even i feel YHM needs a better slot. And SP's 8 pm show has same trps as YHM...simply meaning if the show is given a better slot...it will do wonders.
