Rudra is another name for Lord Shiva... one of the Hindu trimurviate of Gods... Siva is the destroyer and when he gets angry he becomes Rudra... the only person who can cool him down then is his wife Parvati...

Parvati is not Siva's first wife. His first wife is Sati... who he loses as she commits suicide because her father insults her husband Siva. After this happens Siva goes mad and retires into seclusion... Parvati decides to marry him and does penance to get him as her husband... Siva questions her multiple times about her desire to marry him...

So the names match and the story has some parallels... hope this helps!

I think Indian mythology is very intriguing but it's also really confusing to get your head around. I tried to watch Mahabharat a couple of times but I didn't understand anything mainly because the Hindi they speak is so difficult to understand.

Anyway, I'm definitely going to try read up on it.

Word of caution. The current Mahabharat that airs on SP is very weird. It doesn't match ANY of the popular versions that people read. So you might want to avoid that anyway, as a first timer.
