Ram Leela-
Watched the first half when the film released. Said the film is stupid, Deepika is just about good, nothing exceptional. People started attacking me saying how her real performance starts in the second half and blah blah
Watched the second half on Sony and my view remains unchanged. Leela is Deepika's most overrated performance till date. Atleast when it came to awards, Nimrat Kaur and Sonakshi Sinha did a better job in Lunchbox and Lootera. As a fan of Deepika, kudos to her for improving so much but all the awards, etc makes her performance really overrated IMO.

Shudh Desi Romance.
Um, what the heck was that? The plot was weak and the film had no substance...nothing much except for smooches and running.

I am a big Parineeti fan but her performance in this film was very overrated. I remember critics praising her and she even got a Best Actress nomination..I thought she was good but nothing great. Sushant was fine, his voice annoys me. Vaani was good for her first film..she gives me Anushka vibes.

Title should've been Bhag Milkha Bhag 😆 I'd give it 2/5

Gunday
I had such high hopes with this one-great talented cast, good music, good promos, but it all fell flat. OTT, predictable film with lots of hamming and overacting. I get it that it was of that masala OTT genre but I didn't find it all that entertaining either. All 3 had some good scenes but I don't think any performance was consistent enough to be good. Irfan was his fine self. The bromance was cool, romance was half-baked. Also was so much oil on their chests necessary? 😆
I'd give it 2/5

Hasee toh Phasee

If I had to use one word to describe this movie, it would be TEPID. It appears they were trying to go for a breezy/quirky rom-com but this film falls WELL short of the mark.

Primarily because there is very lukewarm chemistry b/w Sid and Parineeti...or to be more precise, b/w the characters of Nikhil and Meeta...in general, the characterization is very WEAK in the movie...they tried to put in all kinds of quirks... I remember reading reviews about the funny side characters and the comedy scenes but not a single scene even elicited a chuckle from me. I didn't get the point of the twin daadis, or the Anu Malik wannabe or the CID scene...tepid attempts at comedy.

Only character that makes an impact is Meeta's father...I don't know the actor's name but it was lovely to see him getting a role with some weight to it and he enacted it well.

Sid's acting was more or less the same as in SOTY...I frankly didn't see any difference.

Pari was alright...I frankly feel that there wasn't anything remarkable in Meeta's character to make her memorable.

Like in a quirky rom-com, there are moments that should stay with you, make an impact vis a vis the CONNECTION b/w two characters...which was sadly lacking in this movie.

I liked the opening with the contrast b/w the two characters...Meeta locking the door with her tricks and Nikhil opening the door on his end...but the movie lost steam quickly after the few initial encounters.

Half the time I was confused by the random shaadi rituals that kept popping up...the plot is wafer thin...they didn't give much BUILD UP to situations for them to have an impact...such that when the final moment of breakdown comes from Meeta, I'm not really that moved.

Only scene that was moving was her scene with her father when she comes home.

Watching movies these days, it feels like GENUINELY compelling chemistry waale characters/actors are too much to ask for...where are the days when just seeing two characters/actors made you want to root for them even in typical love stories?

My rating for HTP: 2/5

She was absolutely fantastic! I wrote it in my my earlier review as well. The star of the film, I don't think the film wouldn't have been complete without Dhankor Baa like you mentioned.

Starting from the scene where she smokes the beedi to the scene where she wishes Ram, Ram Naam Satya Hain...brilliant!

Gunday. Watched it today. It's not a superbly entertaining movie but it has its moments.
Gunday is packaged very nicely. Superb packaging but it's low on content. The locations are great. The train yards, the coal mines, Kolkata's Durga Poojo...all captured beautifully. PERFECT 10!! The child actors were good but I felt they were given too many OTT dialogues and some of their scenes could've been chopped. There isn't much of a story until it unravels towards the end and it's pretty predictable IMO.
Now on to the performances. Irfan Khan...what does one say about him? Chota mooh and badi baat ho jaaing. :D It probably was a walk in the park for him. Priyanka Chopra is okayish. She has lost so much weight! She looks thinner than Bebo's size zero. She's like a -2 now. 😕 Everything in the movie is from that era i.e. 70s/80s except...EXCEPT ladies and gentleman...PC's blouses. They belong to this period. Some time machine zapped those bra type blouse to her and she wears them with glee. Not that she looks bad in them but stick to the period people!!! Ranveer and Arjun are good. They have awesome bhaichara going on and they look all rough and tough. Chikna oils all over their over active muscle-shuscle. Arjun looks ill at ease while delivering light hearted dialogues and being casual. It's easier for him to play the angry hot headed guy. Ranveer Singh does everything with ease...be it comedy, anger, sadness etc. That they made them both mouth OTT dialogues, clench their teeth and pump their fists in the air every 2 seconds, is a different matter altogether. And the SLOWMOS...By God!! Itna slowmo. Run r-u-n..slowmo. Muscles jiggling and glistening while they fight...slowmo. High five...slowmo. 😳
Overall, an okayish one time watch. Could've been better but hey, marketing ka zamana hai. Great packaging with China ka samaan inside. Not too bad but not excellent either. And too many songs. I think they wanna make a sequel and that's why they sorta left it hanging in the end. I'd give it 2.5/5.

Spoiler alert
I liked what they did in this one. I found that susu in saree scene very sweet.😲😆. Pari had that kid's innocence and Sid had a sorry face.👍🏼

Love story in a week did bother me too but then I liked the movie overall so I chose to neglect that part.

I am waiting for Gunday too and you know it.😳

I haven't watched SOTY or Ishqzaade either but did catch SDR. And SDR was anything but shuddhh and desi. 😳 I felt the same girl from SDR left Jaipur after dumping Sushant, moved to China, got an education while also becoming a drug addict, moves to Mumbai and hooks up with her sister's fianc. Not very impressive! Shocked
I think they didn't develop the characters very well. Pari is a selfish loon and Sid is wishy-washy. And hence I didn't buy their romance bit. And I know yeh ladka and yeh ladki...they will dump each other in two days. 😕 Except the CID bit and Sharat Saxena...there wasn't much for me. I dunno. Something's must be wrong with me. I disliked YJHD too. Though it was better than this. These new age love stories!! #SMH

Ram Leela fall in love with one look. That makes a week feel like more than enough. Seen SOTY, SDR and Ishaqzaade. Need to see HTP.

SDR tried to show the fear of marriage/commitment, a good idea in concept, but majorly screwed up the execution.

SOTY was like a high school teen movie. Everyone acted well, it was fun to watch, but the story was half baked.

IMO Ishaqzaade was underrated. It had good performances, good songs and I liked the overall feel of the story.

I love Parineeti, she just captures the screen with her presence. I find Sid hot, but I found his acting OK in SOTY. Not great, but not bad either.

Stopped after 20 min. I would rather watch the O More Saiyyan wala Vahiyaat Song on repeat than finish this. 😛
