Are our stars eating unit-food after 26/7?

July 26 was a day that wreaked havoc in the lives of Mumbaikars.
With
transportation coming to a standstill, communication lines
getting
blocked and belongings being washed away, people were left
reeling
in
shock. However, the worst was yet to come. Post-deluge, the city
witnessed an outburst of epidemics, spread moreso through food
and
water. So, we decided to ask our TV stars, most of whom
themselves
were victims of the deluge, whether the epidemic outburst has
made
them wary of eating the food served on the sets, which already
has
a
repute for being unhygienic.
"Well, not really," says Smriti Iraani. "As it is, I don't get
time
to have my food while shooting. Also, I'm not too fussy about
food.
And, I feel that we eat out at so many other places, that it is
unfair to single out unit-food as unhygienic and hence avoid it.
If
so many unit members can eat the same food, so can I and at least
I've not seen anyone getting ill after eating this food after the
deluge."
Sarabhai V/s Sarabhai star Sumeet Raghavan echoes Smriti's
sentiments, as he says, "Look, we have been eating the unit-food
ever
since we have begun acting, and believe me, it is quite
standardised.
Even after the deluge, the quality of the food has not
deteriorated;
in fact, greater care is taken now to maintain the quality. Yes,
I
do
bring in my lunch from home but that's because I love what my
wife
prepares and the unit food is quite calorific, whereas I need to
watch my weight. But all said and done, we ultimately end up
sharing
the unit-food and homecooked food and there have been no problems
till date, even after 26/7."
Sumeet's on-screen brother Rosesh aka Rajesh Kumar gives a ten-o-
ten
to the food on the Sarabhai sets, which he says is very hygienic
and
also tasty. "So, there's no question of me getting home-cooked
food
while shooting for Sarabhai, the deluge not withstanding." Rajesh
does, however, bring his food from home while on other sets, but
that's only because "the soda content in some of the unit-food is
quite high and it doesn't suit me."
According to Rakshanda Khan the overall quality of the unit-food
has
lowered considerably, which is why for the past one year she has
been
bringing in home-cooked food. Juhi Parmar, too prefers to avoid
unit-
food which she finds too masaledaar for her taste. So, although
both
of them don't eat the food served on the sets, the deluge is not
the
reason. Incidentally, Juhi's co-star in Kumkum, Hussain has never
had
a problem in eating unit-food and he continues to relish it even
after 26/7 saying, "I've not come across anybody who's fallen ill
after eating the food served on the sets nor have I suffered from
any
problem till now."
However, Maninee De stands at the other end of the spectrum from
Hussain and truly tops the list of stars who have left no stone
unturned to combat any possible epidemic spread by the deluge.
Maninee has altogether given up eating the unitfood post 26/7 and
apart from that, she has banned leafy vegetables and meat from
her
kitchen and she carries water purified through purified and
boiled
with potassium permanganate. Moreso, she never fails to put a
sanitizer in hubby Mihir Mishra's bag, who by the way, has strict
instructions from Maninee to avoid unit-food as well. Now, that
takes
the cake, doesn't it?
