The behavior of Maithali to Paro in yesterday's episode reminded me about a bitter experience my family had from our neighbour. Ever since they came to our neighborhood we lost our peaceful evening and night, because the husband is fond of abusing his wife whenever he consume alcohol. We felt pity for the wife and the kids who used to scream when the cruel person torches them. One day my father questioned the husband and suddenly his wife came in between and asked my father that Who is he to interfere in their family matters? She explained to us that it is her husband's right to beat her and it is his way of showing love.I was bit confused then in deciding who deserve my sympathy , my father, the woman who consider herself as a slave or the society who made the woman think that husband has every right to use her like a thrash.
anyway after this experience my father will think twice before interfering in others life.

The abused is more to blame than the abuser in such cases.

This is really sad. Your father did the right thing...he is a brave man with very good conscientious. You must be really proud of him.

It takes time and lot of counseling for an abused women to realize that she deserves better.

What she did is the typical behavior displayed by all victims of domestic violence.

This has happened to me a lot of times too. But I never stop speaking up if I feel something is wrong.

At least my conscience will be clear.

It happened with me also, all the time my husband says stay away from people's business, they really do not need your interference. Looks like he is right. Once they are ok with their husbands they feel like we insulted their husbands.

The problem is they don't realize that this is abnormal behavior. They are not ready to accept that husband or his relatives don't have the right to beat her. If that lady was uneducated then i would have understand her behavior but she is a high school teacher.

That is great actually, but it needs guts.
To be frank I will think twice before reacting to such situation. I had enough experience to do so.

That's true...but sometimes one worries about making things worse!
And Maithili not talking to Paro...well...it wasn't like Paro spoke something that Maithili didn't want her to...in fact she took courage from the fact that Paro supported her..!
Obviously the bravado she showed was all she had and now she doesn't want to anger her coward of a husband any further!

I think the society and the socialisation are to blamed. If we take the example of RR when maithali expresses her opinion to her MIL.mohini makes fun of her son for allowing his wife to speak. Our socialization is not proper,it makes us believe that in family life woman don't have the right to express her opinion.
