I'm disappointed in how he treated Jeremy too but I'm not surprised. This has been Damon's way for a long time. When he's hurting he lashes out in the worst possible ways and Elena (Katherine) broke his heart. I mentioned this in a post I made about the episode before this one. Damon is kind of dependent on Elena's love to make him good. He doesn't feel himself capable of it otherwise. He told Elena (Kat) that he needs her and that she brings out the best in him (something along those lines) and what Kat said though just trying to end things with him, made sense. Elena can't be the reason he tries to be good. That's a lot on her shoulders. He needs to see that he can on his own and do it because it's what he wants and not what others expect from him. He said in Season 2 I believe when Rose died, "I can't be what people want me to be. What she (Elena) wants me to be." He has done horrible things and it's ingrained in him and defined him. With Elena we see there is good there but Damon has yet to see all on his own that he's capable of good and not just for Elena.
For their relationship to work, he needs to see the good in himself and maybe Elena could help him realize that when she's back in her own body (I'm sure she'll be soon). Show him that yes he's imperfect but he can be good and not just because of her but because it's there within him.
As someone said above, he doesn't think he's deserving of what he gets in life, Elena's love or anything and he usually self-sabotages. And when everyone just waits for him to screw up, that just makes things all the more worse because if they don't think him capable, why would he believe himself so?
And he loves Stefan...Damon is putting up a front right now so he doesn't have to think about how much it hurts...to think about the pain he feels.
They didn't ruin his character though...all this is very much on par with Damon's characterization.
Good post! 😃
