We associate a fleet of cars, servants at their beck and call and a palatial house when we think about how celebrities live their lives. While it might hold true for a majority of them, there are some celebrities who have their own share of riches to rags experiences. We bring you a list of some of these stars and their miserable monetary woes.
Amitabh Bachchan: Amitabh Bachchan's name is the first to crop up when talking about superstars who have faced a financial crisis. The mega star's company ABCL went bankrupt and the actor owed money worth Rs. 90 crore to the people. Hounded by creditors, ABCL that aimed to become India's pioneering entertainment company, approached the Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction to seek protection under the bankruptcy laws. Big B's ambitious project was dismantling in front of his eyes, so much so that the actor had to keep his bungalow 'Prateeksha' for mortgage. According to OneIndia, in an interview Big B said "In the year 2000, when the entire world was celebrating the new century, I was celebrating my disastrous fortune. There were no films, no money, no company, a million legal cases against the company and the tax authorities had put notice of recovery on my home". Amitabh was offerred to host the TV show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' and his fate changed soon after. Rest as they say is history as he once again climbed the success ladder and he comes forward to help those who need financial support in the industry.

Preity Zinta: The buzz surrounding Bollywood actor Preity Zinta recently is that the actress is rumoured to be going through a financial crisis. While Preity has brushed those rumours aside, day in and day out news reports alleging Preity's monetary problems have been making headlines. Preity produced the debacle 'Ishkq In Paris' and reports of her alleged money problems have come to the forefront ever since. During interviews at that time, Preity confessed that Salman Khan offered to help her financially. The reports have resurfaced after Preity put her apartment where she had been living for many years up for rent. Preity's track record apparently has been fanning the gossip stories even more as writer-director Abbas Tyrewala who wrote 'Ishkq In Paris' slapped a case against the actress for non-payment of dues.

A K Hangal: Avtar Krishan Hangal or A K Hangal as he was better known is the most famous example of cash-strapped actors who couldn't even gather enough funds to support his ailing condition. Hangal who passed away at the age of 95, was a celebrated actor and had acted in 225 films till he passed away. Recepient of the Padma Bhushan award, Hangal was a part of iconic films like 'Lagaan', 'Sholay', 'Bawarchi' and 'Guddi' to name a few. Standing out in his character roles, Hangal however led a life full of poverty. Hangal's son had made an appeal to the film industry to come and help his father to pay his medical bills while he was undergoing treatment as their family had no means to pay the same. Even though Amitabh Bachchan and Karan Johar stepped forward to help Hangal's family towards the end, the actor had by then spent a life of misery and poverty.

Jagdish Mali: One of Bollywood's biggest photographers, Jagdish Mali also known as actor Antara Mali's father was found in a disheveled state on the streets of Andheri wearing nothing but a shirt and covered in mud. Model and actress Mink Brar who was last seen in 'Bigg Boss 6' spotted Jagdish Mali in this pitiable condition while she was distributing blankets at Yari Road in Andheri, Mumbai. Mink contacted actor Salman Khan who came forward to help the ace photographer. On the other hand, Jagdish's daughter Antara Mali rubbished reports of her abandoning her father and refuting claims that he was mentally ill and needed help. The photographer's face was slapped across national dailies in a disheveled state and Salman Khan reportedly even got angry at his daughter's casual attitude. According to a news report in India Today, Salman said "What is the daughter saying? Her father was walking down Yari Road without clothes, now who needs help?" The photographer had reportedly fallen on hard times which had forced him to sell his studio and apparently could also be suffering from alcohol addiction.

Bharat Bhushan: He was another Bollywood star who had stardom take a toll on his financial condition. Actor Bharat Bhushan who made his debut with the film 'Chitralekha' and known especially for his role in 'Baiju Bawra', lost all his money, cars and bungalows to gambling. His is a classic riches to rags story where the actor lost almost all his wealth, so much so that he started living in a chawl. A superstar of his time, Bhushan who had acted opposite Nutan, Madhubala and Meena Kumari died penniless.
