So they know each other since childhood and it seems they were very much attached because Arnav felt her absence way too much.Good one attachment is more than enough to keep them glued.

He will be sorry as he can't stay away from her but NK was right he is kind a play boy but there must be a reason for that.

Chapter 3

The Jerk of a Boss!

Khushi swallowed hard as she looked at the huge AR office! She did not remember it so big when she had seen it last. And Arnav Singh Raizada was virtually the boss here. Her Sir! He was not her 12 year old dearest friend, Arnav anymore. The sooner she got that into her head the better!

"Khushi Kumari Gupta you can go in now," the girl at the reception called out to Khushi. As Khushi stumbled to her feet, the meagerly- clad receptionist looked at Khushi's attire with great shock!

Khushi straightened her red kameez and gave a watery smile to the receptionist. She looked at her watch. She had been waiting for almost two hours to meet her boss, Arnav Singh Raizada.

She knocked on the door of his cabin. There was no response. She knocked again and entered his cabin. She had taken only two steps inside the room when she was rooted to the spot!

Her eyes grew wide and her mouth formed a perfect O' as she stared at the couple! Arnav was sitting on his swivel chair at his desk and a girl was sitting on his lap and kissing him! Khushi gasped and the heavy file in her hand slipped causing a thud. Arnav's eyes met her and glowed and she saw the glint in them.

"Run legs run!" Khushi commanded them but they refused to budge.

To her embarrassment and discomfort, Arnav deliberately took a few seconds more before releasing the girl and whispering something in her ear! Lavanya straightened her dress, and getting up from his lap turned angrily at Khushi .

"Who the hell are you? How dare you come in? ASR just look at the audacity of this girl, look how she is staring at us? Throw her out!" Lavanya cried out enraged.

" Its alright La! Next time she will not dare to come into my cabin without knocking first! Will you, Miss Gupta?" Arnav drawled coolly, getting up languidly from his chair, buttoning up his shirt, a smirk playing on his lips as he saw her embarrassed face.

The jerk she thought!

"Yes Sir... I mean no Sir," she mumbled, her face crimson.

She picked up her file from the ground and was about to make a dash for the door when he remarked casually, "And take your orders from my P.A. That is if you still want to work at AR!"

She could feel him laughing behind her back as she rushed out of the room. The jerk! He expected her to run away from AR did he?

Well why should she? Babuji had already told Dadiji that Khushi would help Arnav redecorate the farmhouse. She would not falsify Babuji's words just because the idiot chose to make out with someone in his office! Eeeks!

But then Khushi felt a pang somewhere inside her...that girl must be special to Arnav...

What does it matter to me...as if I care!

Khushi saw the receptionist scrutinising her and snapped out of her thoughts.

"Mr. Raizada has asked me to meet his P.A." said to the receptionist.

" He has, has he! Now we will have behenjis working at AR!" she muttered.

"Oh! There he is, ASR's P.A. Aman Mehra." the receptionist pointed to a bespectacled young man of medium height.

Khushi smiled very sweetly at the receptionist deliberately, enjoying her displeasure, and approached Aman Mehra.

"Mr. Mehra? I am Khushi Kumari Gupta. Mr. Raizada asked me to meet you."

Aman grinned at her."Khushi? Diwanji's daughter! Welcome to AR, Khushi. Your father asked me to take care of you. You will have no problem here." Aman beamed.

Khushi smiled weakly. Except from your khadoos boss she mused!

"ASR has asked you to pack your bag . His driver will pick you up and take you to the farmhouse. Please be ready in an hour," Aman said looking at his watch. He walked Khushi to the door, explaining things to her.

"Ever since ASR left for Harvard the farmhouse has fallen into misuse and needs revamping big time. ASR will meet you there and after that you will have no time to breathe, you know!" Aman smiled at her gently.

Khushi nodded her head, "Yes Mr. Mehra."

"Hey there is no need to be formal with me Khushi."

"Ji Amanji!" Khushi smiled genuinely for the first time after entering AR.

She took his leave and headed for the door in a hurry, muttering to herself, "In an hour! How is that possible! It will take me half an hour to reach home, then I have to make jalebis, eat, pack, eat some more..."

She would have to hurry! Khushi took an auto to her house and ran into her room. Her jaw dropped.

The room was upside down with her clothes strewn all over the bed! Her Jiji was standing on a stool, rummaging the topmost shelf of the almirah for more clothes!" Buaji was shouting instructions to her Payaliya, punctuated by her trademark, "Hayye re Nand Kishore!"

"Yeh kya ho raha hai? Mere karma paagal khana kyon lag raha hai! " Khushi shrieked. (Why is my room looking like a mad house?)

Buaji and Jiji startled at her voice.

Buaji retorted, swinging her plait over her shoulders, "Lo kar lo baat! Sankadevi ka kamraa to paagalkhana hi lagega na!" (A mad woman's room will look like a mad woman's room, won't it!)

"Khushi," Payal climbed down from the tool and ruffling Khushi's hair said, "We are packing for you. Buaji wants you to take your best outfits to the farmhouse !"

"But why?"she looked at her Buaji suspiciously. "I am not going for a fashion show. I am going to work!"

Buaji avoided looking into Khushi's eyes and cried out, "Hayye re Nandkishore! Yeh suno Sankadevi ka baat! To bhikariyon ka kapda pehen ke jaogi kya?" (Listen to Sankadevi! Will you wear clothes worn by beggars!)

"Hum tumre khana late hain. Khaa kar jana!" saying this Buaji dwadled out of the room, avoiding Khushi's gaze.(I am going to get food for you. Eat and go.)

Daal main kuchh kalaa hai Khushi mused looking at Buaji from the corner of her eye. (Something is definitely wrong)

"How did you all know that I have to leave for the farmhouse immediately?" she asked Payal

" ASR's P.A. had called Babuji. Before leaving for his doctor's appointment Babuji told us to ready your bag so that you don't get late."

"But, but Jiji...I don't want to..." Khushi felt emotional suddenly, she did not want to leave her family.

"You don't want to go Khushi? Were they rude to you?" Payal asked Khushi anxiously.

"No, no Jiji. Anjalidi is such a sweet person. She made me feel so much at home. Just like Ratna aunty." Khushi assured Payal

"And Arnav?" Payal questioned.

Khushi made a face."You were right Jiji. He has changed. But that doesn't matter!"

"Take care of yourself, Khushi! " Payal patted her cheek lovingly, her eyes welling up.

"Arrey Jiji! I will be back by the end of this week or next Monday!" Khushi said stoically. I have to do this for Babuji, she thought. Even if it means tolerating that rakshas for a week!

She helped Payal pack her clothes in the new fluorescent pink suitcase that Buaji had borrowed for her from their neighbour, Preeto. That done, Khushi placed her Devi Maiyya in her jhola, along with her chanas and bers! Much to Buaji's disconcertment she gulped down her jalebis along with her lunch. And just in time too! A car honked outside the Gupta house!

"Namaste Madam Khushiji. ASR sahab has sent me to pick you up!" The chauffeur who had driven Khushi from RM to Arnav's office stood at the door . Khushi nodded at him and thanked him as he loaded her suitcase in the trunk of the car.

Khushi bid a tearful farewell to her Jiji.

"I did not get to meet Babuji, Jiji. Do take care of him in my absence." Khushi said in a choked voice.

She had just stepped into the car when Buaji came rushing after her with a huge brown paper bag of jalebis! Khushi hugged Buaji, almost choking her in the process till she screamed!

Khushi smiled and waved leaning out of the car till they were out of sight.

The morning had been gruelling and although it was just about 11.30 am, she dozed off in the car. When she opened her eyes she was surprised to see the car parked outside AR.

"Why are we here?" she questioned the driver.

"Sahab will also go Madamji."

Sahab! Khushi's heart lurched! Him! Oh no Devi Maiyya! I had enough of him today!

"I don't pay my employees for day dreaming," a voice rasped into her ears. She turned her head towards the voice. There he was at his smirking best, peering into her face and gesturing to her to come out of the car.

Khushi stumbled out of the car. He gestured to her to follow him and she literally ran after him, unable to keep pace with his long strides.

Why am I running after him in the parking lot, it occurred to her suddenly and she slowed her pace to a crawl. Damn his commanding ways! I am not his slave!

"What's the matter? I don't have all day! Or would you rather I carry you! I am rather experienced in these matters, you know!" He had turned around and was mocking her, hands on hips.

"I saw that in your cabin today!" she spat without thinking and regretted it the very next moment.

"Ahh yes! You were observing me closely, were you not?" he looked into her eyes and then let his gaze deliberately linger on her lips.

Kushi's heart stopped beating. She held her breath...

"You would have liked me to kiss you instead Khushi ?"

His voice was husky. He had moved closer to her. She swallowed hard. She felt giddy.

Khushi take control of your senses she chided herself.

"No never!" she whispered fiercely at him, her eyes blazing fire.

"No? You were all over me that day in the skydiving club!"

"I wasn't! I was just happy to meet my old friend."

Arnav's eyes hardened and he said in a curt tone, "I have no friends and nor do I want any. They are never there when you need them."

An emotion stirred in Khushi's heart as she stared at the look of anguish in his clear brown eyes.

"Arnav..?" she put out her hand

He stepped back warily, his face stern, his brown eyes opaque and emotionless.

"And don't call me Arnav. I am your boss, not your friend, samjhi tum?! "
