Someone answered before in the forum...here it is
Hi! I think one thing is that Adishaki is not actually separate from Shiv - she is half of Shiv and he is half of her - together they form the essential male-female shakti which powers the creation. Shivji gifted Brahma-ji his female energy because without it Brahma could not spark creation. But it was agonizing to rip it from himself and after it was gone from him he became vairagi, in a way symbolizing the plight of the male essence minus the female. It is strong but has no power to bring anything forth as it is the female element which drives creation.
So Shiv cannot, essentially, marry himself. Where the idea of marriage exists, which is actually kind of already strange where divine powers are concerned, you must have separate male and female being.

Also, Sati made vow upon her death that she would not return to Shivji until she would be born to a father who showed respect both for herself and for Shiv also. So she has in a way tied herself to a future birth so that she can be reunited with him. Actually, inthe puran, once she returns to Kailash with him as Parvati, she recognizes herself again as not human and they are once more joined as Mahadev and Adi Shakti.

Devon ki dev page they have put this ...
Shakti form
Adi Shakti
Added by Shadow.daemon

Shakti or Adi Shakti is the primordial cosmic energy and represents the dynamic forces that are thought to move through the entire universe in Hinduism. Shakti is the concept, or personification, of divine feminine creative power, sometimes referred to as 'The Great Divine Mother' in Hinduism. On the earthly plane, Shakti most actively manifests through female embodiment and creativity/fertility.

She is originally mother of trimurti as per Devi Bhagwat Mahapurana but her complete manifested human form also known as sagun swaroop of Adi shakti i.e. Durga is the soul mate of Lord Shiva.

She is nature and hence is also known as Prakriti.

Appearance Edit

Adi Shakti appears in the form of the human form she has taken for Lord Shiva.

Formless Adi Shakti

She is actually formless.

She is also depicted as a lady in red saree with many ornaments nd has 8 hands, 7 hands holding different weapons and the lower right hand giving ashirwad.

History Edit

When the world was being created, Lord Bramha asked Lord Shiva for a boon. Lord Bramha asked Lord Shiva to separate Shakti from him(Shiva) as Bramha needed energy(Shakti) to create the world.

Thus,Shakti was separated from Shiva.
Sati as Shakti
Adi Shakti as Sati
Added by Shadow.daemon

After the world was created, it was decided that Adi Shakti should again be united with Shiva. Therefore, Adi Shakti took the incarnation of Sati,in order to win Shiva over. But,unfortunately and tragically,Sati died, which made Lord Shiva so sad that he decided to renounce the world and began meditating.

To get Shiva out of his meditation and to engage him with the world,Adi Shakti again took the human form of Parvati.
