Hasee Toh Phasee

'Ishq Bulaava' song: Hasee Toh Phasee
Story: Straight-forward boy and eccentric girl are drawn to each other. Wait, they're not the ones in a relationship. Will their love fructify?

Review: Hasee Toh Phasee is for the romantics who like their martinis stirred not shaken. Debutant director Vinil Mathew's straight-forward approach is smart and fresh; his characters are lovable. Nikhil(Sidharth Malhotra) is an optimist, who believes once committed, there's no straying. Meeta( Parineeti Chopra) is a non-conformist; she's a go-getter in her personal and professional space. Naturally Nikhil and Meeta's ideologies don't match. But there's an under-current in their equation that keeps the audience hoping they that they will seek each other out.

Ok, so why aren't these two together in the first place? Is it only because they are poles apart as people? No, it's because Nikhil is engaged to be married to Meeta's elder sister Karishma. And, Meeta herself has been missing from the family scene for seven long years chasing her professional dream.

It is only when the prodigal returns, does she realise that there's an emotional void in her life. Besides her father who dotes on her, she also feels the need for a companion like Nikhil who can put her topsy-turvy life into perspective.

This romantic comedy mirrors the quirks in human nature subtly and provides humour in everyday situations; in the family and amongst friends. Parineeti's relationship with her father(Manoj Joshi, in fine form) strikes the right emotional chord.

The songs--Shake It like Shammi and the Punjabi Wedding Song add zing to an otherwise simple narrative. Parineeti who has come to represent the power-house performer passes with flying colours. And, Sidharth, whose good-looks distract, shows a definitive growth in his second outing as an actor after Student of the Year.

If you're looking to rediscover the magic of goofy love around Valentines, give HTP a shot.

Note: You may not like this film if you are a die-hard romantic who only subscribes to Bollywood formula.

Movie Review: Hasee Toh Phasee

Director: Vinil Mathew

Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Parineeti Chopra, Manoj Joshi, Anil Mange and Adah Sharma

Opposites attract' is probably the oldest and most clichd saying in the book. But it holds true for almost all epic love stories. Hasee Toh Phasee falls in that category too. But this film is nothing close to a clich. This quirky rom-com is packed with chaos, drama and ample laughs. And its USP lies in the vibe and chemistry that the lead actors share, making it likable and a very attractive young romance.

The unpredictable and bizarre, Meeta (Parineeti Chopra), is a free-spirited girl and a total misfit in her rich, conservative Gujarati family, which is why most dislike her. She's compulsively rational and suppresses her emotions to the point where it drives her close to crazy. But things change when she meets Nikhil (Sidharth Malhotra). He brings about a balance that helps release her pent-up feelings revealing her humane side. Nikhil too, who's in an unsatisfying relationship with fianc Karishma (Adah Sharma), finally finds himself in a happy, peaceful space around Meeta.

Vinil Mathew deserves a pat on the back for making such an enjoyable first film. Though the script is weak in parts, the movie has enough moments to make you laugh and cry. Three scenes from the film deserve a special mention. The Anu Malik scene with Anil Mange and Parineeti will surely crack you up. So will the scene where Sidharth is performing a computer heist. But it's the emotional moment between Parineeti and her screen dad, Manoj Joshi that will warm the cockles of your heart.

Coming to the music, romantic melodies, Zehnaseeb and Ishq bulava are beautifully woven into the screenplay. Yes, Shake it like Shammi, Punjabi wedding song and Drama queen are foot-tapping numbers but they seem a bit restrained. It's time Vishal-Shekhar re-evaluate their archetypal template for Dharma films.

The real winner for HTP is its casting. Everybody from Manoj Joshi, Sharat Saxena and Anil Mange to lead actors Parineeti and Sidharth are exceptional. Parineeti has emerged as one of the finest performers among the young lot of actresses. She's a firecracker in this film! But surprisingly, it's Sidharth's subtle and charming performance that stays with you much after the lights come on. He holds his own in front of the crackling Parineeti with amazing ease. He's even brushed up on his dancing skills.

Kudos to producers, Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar for backing this film. HTP seems like the perfect amalgamation of their vastly diverse sensibilities (watch the film to know what we mean).

The final verdict: HTP is one of the most refreshing boy-meets-girl films to have been made in recent times. So go watch this zany, new-age date movie. This is one date you won't

Positive Points:- Superb Performances, good music, great cinematography and decent comic timings.

Negative Points:- Few holes in the script and strictly for multiplex audiences.

Review:- Movie has been driven by super solid performances of Parineeti and Sidharth. Supporting Cast was also very good. Movie's plot has nothing unique but its still special due to superb performances of lead stars and their chemistry is mind-blowing.. Movie's plot has few holes especially in first half but its been covered by good performances of Parineeti and Sidharth. Dialogues are quite refreshing as comic scenes are well shot and written. Music is very good, all songs leaves you refreshed.

Overall:- Its a decent watch with superb performances and nice music. You will remain in hall with smile on your face all the time.. You should go for it over the Weekend..

Nikhil (played by Sidhharth Malhotra) is a quintessential good-at-heart young man leading an unsuccessful life. His world goes topsy turvy when he sets his eyes on the pretty Meeta (played by Parineeti Chopra at her sister, Karishma's marriage (played by Adah Shah). The two fall madly in love with each other. Problems arise when Karishma's father disapproves of Nikhil's callous attitude towards his life and more importantly, his career. Nikhil takes it to his heart and pledges to return to Meeta only when he has made it big in life. Meeta accompanies him, since she is already on a run. A chemical engineer, Meeta is poles apart from Nikhil as a person. How the science freak adjusts in his crazy family forms the rest of the plot of the romantic comedy.

DharmaProductions

The director Vinil Mathew does a fairly good job at narrating the tale of how two completely different people help each other break out of their individual shells and live life on their own terms. The film offers some hearty laughs but could have done with a lot more humour and less drama. The film often steers towards the typical seen-before melodramatic romantic angle that induces a couple of yawns. Coming from a banner as big as Dharma Productions, it is needless to say the film ranks high on visual appeal, glamour and style. The larger than life film has been shot in a celebratory mood and quite effectively so, but lacks originality at times.

Parineeti steals the show yet again. She may remind you of Kareena Kapoor from Jab We Met' from the trailers but she ably holds her own in the film. Here comes yet another stellar performance by the lady. Having said that, it is high time Parineeti signs a role that makes her stand apart from the previous characters she has played on screen. Sidhharth Malhotra shows a lot of scope of improvement. He undoubtedly has come a long way since his first film Student Of The Year'. Given his introverted nature, he has been correctly chosen for the role. The contrast between his personality and Parineet gives way to some good chemistry on screen. Adah Shah does justice to the role she is given.

The music is pleasing to the ears but we're not too sure how long its going to rule the charts. Zehnaseeb' and Punjabi Wedding Song' stand apart while the rest of the songs fail to make a mark. It is definitely not the best work by Vishal-Shekhar. We've seen them do far better than this.

Verdict: If you're looking for a light-hearted feel-good film or if you're a fan of the leading lady, watch it. Its not the best film, but worth a watch at least.
