I learnt to be patient'

Feb 02, 2014 - Natasha Coutinho

Saqib Saleem, after impressive performances in films like Mere Dad Ki Maruti and Bombay Talkies, will soon return to the big screen with Amol Gupte's Hawaa Hawaai. While Saqib is excited about his own release, he tells us that he is equally glad that his sister Huma Qureshi has been garnering praise for her performance in Dedh Ishqiya.

He says, "I am usually very critical about Huma's performances and give her honest feedback. I feel Dedh Ishqiya is her best performance till date and have told her that."
With newcomers entering the industry every few weeks, the competition is tough but the actor says he is ready to take it on. "It's good to have competition and everybody wants to do good films. The good thing is that the new lot of actors is friendly, so it's not rivalry as such. It's healthy competition. I love the kind of work Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Sushant Singh Rajput and others are doing. I aim to do good work too," says Saqib.
Saqib adds that he is also impressed by the new lot of actresses and given a chance would love to act opposite them. He says, "Parineeti Chopra is a fantastic actress; even Alia Bhatt is impressive in the Highway promos. Shraddha Kapoor is another actress I like. I would love to be paired with these actresses."When asked if he is nervous as the release of his film Hawaa Hawaai approaches the actor denies it. He laughs as he says, "Jo hona tha woh ho gaya, now it's up to the audience to decide. I am confident about the film as it has a brilliant script. Amol Gupte sir knows how to make the audience laugh as well as cry. The emotions in the film are pure and very real. "Saqib adds that since the shoot involved a majority of the scenes being shot with kids, it was a lesson at being patient. He says, "Though all the kids are good actors, particularly Partho Gupte, it does take some time to get them to deliver and I learnt to be patient with kids while shooting for this film. Off screen, we had fun together playing cricket, basketball, watching movies and gorging on food."
