I want to be a Bollywood star: Gurmeet Choudhary

After playing Ram in his debut show 'Ramayan' ( 2008) Gurmeet Choudhary catapulted to telly stardom almost overnight and became the nation's favourite heartthrob thanks to his stints in 'Pati Patni Aur Woh', 'Geet Hui Sabse Parayi', 'Punar Vivaah' and 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5'. Gurmeet who's currently shaking a leg in 'Nach Baliye 6' alongwith wife Debina Bonnerjee is gearing up for the finale. Baroda Times got chatty with the hunk when he was in the state recently. Excerpts:

This is your second dance reality show. What are your expectations? Do you hope to win? I won Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 and now I'm doing my second reality show with my baliye (Debina) in Nach Baliye 6. In fact this was one of my favourite shows because both Debina and I love dancing, so I thought why not show my talent with my baliye this time. Of course, I'm hoping to win (laughs).

You aren't a trained dancer. What do you love the most about dancing? I've always loved dancing since childhood. That's one of the reasons why I won Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5. In fact, now I love break dance, contemporary, rumba and hip hop. I am good at a lot of dance forms now.

How does it feel like when you dance with your wife, do rehearsals together? Debina is a trained dancer and even I love dancing, so we both enjoy dancing and it's a deadly combination both on and off stage. (laughs).

What is your take on reality shows, considering you've done three of them already? Reality shows are a great platform to showcase one's talent. People love me and I am recognised thanks to these reality shows. Now my audiences know me as Gurmeet and not just as a character in a TV show. That's what reality shows do for actors like me.

Is Bollywood the next step? Yes, of course! I want to become a Bollywood star. Maybe in another six months you will come to know that I've signed a film. Right now I am not going to say more about my B-Town plans, because I believe there's a right time for everything.

Honestly, these tellywood actors should talk after they actually enter Bollywood and have a film release... It's so stupid how they keep talking about Bollywood and making it big there and what not... Sure, it's their right to dream big and there is nothing wrong with that but man, these actors (weather its Drashti, Gurmeet, Sobti, etc.) start prancing around town like they are the next big thing Bollywood has to offer before even cracking a film... YAWN...🥱 It's not only a big joke for the viewers and readers but they just insult themselves by making such statements because in the future, it just comes back to bite them in the ass ...
