Ganga's POV-
Ganga Manaoing Jagya
Setting- Mangalore
"Dr Sa...I'm really sorry about not telling you earlier." I said, but it was too late, he stormed off and left me standing in our bedroom alone. I sat down and watched Mannu playing with his toys. I took Mannu and placed him on my lap. Mannu looked up at my face and put his little hand on my cheek. He could tell I was upset.
"Maa..." He said. He smiled. I smiled back.
"Mannu, I did a bad thing. I didn't tell Dr Sa that there's someone who's been bullying me in class, and then it got out of hand, and this person stole my purse...and Dr Sa found out this morning and asked me why I didn't tell him anything until now, and I couldn't answer him. The truth is, I didn't want to involve him and make a big deal out of it, I wanted to handle it on my own, but some people cannot be handled alone, you need help, and I learned that lesson the hard way. I don't mind they my purse got stolen...Dr Sa already went to tell the police about it, I'm just sad that I hurt Dr Sa...I should have told him. I knew already that he wants to know whenever I'm having any problems...but I didn't tell him regardless. Now he's mad at me. He stormed off...and I don't know where he went."
Mannu listened to everything. It really felt like he understood every single word of what I'd said. He got on his little knees and kissed my cheek. I touched my forehead to his.
"Aww, my baby understands everything." I said. He smiled.
"Well, it's too late now to undo my actions, but now we have to think of how to apologize and make up with Dr Sa, don't we Mannu?"
I hugged him. I didn't have class today, thankfully. I had some time to myself. I made a handmade card for him saying "I'm sorry" in English. Then I baked him a cake and cooked his favorite, masala dosa. The food reminded me of his birthday. Hopefully, it would make him smile the same way he smiled on his birthday too. I cleaned the house and waited for him to come home. I had no clue where he'd gone, but I had a feeling he would be back soon enough. He returned around dinner time, which was perfect. I made Kaka open the door and then I gave Mannu the card I'd made. Mannu ran up to Dr Sa and gave it to him.
Dr Sa took the card and carried Mannu, and sat down on a chair. I was watching him from behind a wall. "What's this? Did you make it?" He asked Mannu.
"Mumma..." Mannu replied.
"Oh...let's see..." He said. He opened the card and read it. "Hmm..." Dr Sa said. "Apology not accepted." Dr Sa said, loud enough for me to hear. I sighed. I knew it wasn't going to be so easy. I had to put into effect now, my plan B. This involved dinner. I told Kaka to tell him dinner was ready. He joined me at the dinner table and didn't make eye contact.
I served dinner and I saw him slightly raise his eyebrows when he saw what I'd cooked, but he didn't smile or say anything.
"Don't you like the dinner?" I asked him.
He shrugged. I sighed again. He still looked upset. I bought the cake which said "I'm sorry" on it and placed it in front of him. I handed him the knife. He cut a piece of cake and put it on a plate and placed the plate in front of me. Then he cut another piece and fed it to Mannu. Without tasting it himself, he walked off and I heard him opening the front door. I told Kaka to watch Mannu and followed Dr Sa outside.
He was standing with his back to the house. I walked up to him and stood next to him. "I'm really sorry, Dr Sa...I know you're hurt. I was...wrong." I said. I waited for him to say something, anything. A few minutes passed, he stayed completely silent. His hands were in his pockets and he was staring into space. A few times, I saw him looking at the sky. It was nighttime. I gave up and turned around. I took a step forward when he finally spoke.
"Ganga, wait..." I heard him say. I stopped. I turned around and faced him.
"Yes?" I asked him. He waited a moment before he spoke.
"I uh...I...accept your apology." He said.
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah. I forgive you..." He said. He smiled.
"How come?" I asked. "It's so sudden."
"Sudden? Well if you want, I could stay angry at you a bit longer." He smiled. I smiled back.
"I had to forgive you, Ganga...you baked such a lovely cake..." He said.
"Then how come you didn't taste the cake?" I asked him. He walked up to me slowly and stopped a few inches away. "Because if I'd tasted the cake, then I would've had no choice but to forgive you much sooner than I wanted to...I wanted to stay angry a bit longer." He said.
"Oh ok...men are so strange..." I said. He laughed. "That's what I think about women too." He replied. He suddenly swept me off my feet and I was in his arms, being carried back inside.
"Dr Sa, Kaka will see us!" I objected.
"Shh..." He said.
"Put me down." I ordered. He stared into my eyes intensely. "I will put you down." He said. We were inside and he pushed open the bedroom door. He slowly placed me down on the bed and knelt down beside me.
"Today was fun." He smiled.
"Fun?" I asked. "It was terrible...you were so angry...you just stormed off..." I complained.
"Yeah, I should do that more often...if it means I'll get so much special treatment." He smiled.
"Oh, so you think this is funny? Then I should stay angry at you and storm off and totally disappear. I'll see how it makes you feel."
He laughed. "Can I have one more thing, if I asked you? It feels like my lucky day. I think you'll give me whatever I ask for. Am I right?"
"What if I refuse?" I said.
"Then I'll storm off again." He grinned.
"Ugh..." I said. I sat up. He took my hands and pulled me forward. He closed his eyes.
"What?" I asked.
He pointed to his lips. I blushed. "Dr Sa..." He folded his hands and begged. I sighed. I was blushing so hard. "Ganga...please..." He said. I silently agreed. I held his face and kissed his forehead. I tried getting away from him but he made me sit down again.
"Not done yet, you owe me one more..." He said. He closed his eyes and I kissed him on the lips. It was a quick one. He opened his eyes and smiled. We hugged. Now I knew how I'd have to pay for upsetting him ever again.
