He was the great warrior .Young and full of life...No other king or emperor in the history has intrigued the world like Alexander...So great he was that he is mentioned in Bible and Quran... So great his impact was that battles happened to occupy his dead body for 200 years...So glorious he was that emperors like ceaser, Augustus, Hannibal, Napoleon considered him as idol. The legend of Alexander is so great that non Greeks knows about his story in detail. He has so many names ...God like stature...all and everything...He was only 32 when he died...No one has achieved so much fame in such sort life...His aim was to become more popular and powerful than his idol Achilles and he did achieve his dream.
He wasn't grahan of west. And yes Porus or any other Indian or other world king couldn't achieve what he achieved in such short time. Only Genghis Khan of Mongol comes close when it comes to universal popularity ..

I agree he was definitely not 'Paschim Ka Grahan'.He was one of the greatest conquerors the world had ever seen.Infact he was special coz he was the first one to conquer and unify so many countries. One of his kind indeed.
However a great conqueror is not necessarily a great ruler.Alex did conquer the world but died before he could prove himself as a worthy ruler of the lands he had conquered. Therefore I am not sure whe there we can comment on that or not.

When it comes to military achievements,Alexander is unparalleled. There is a reason why he is called 'The Great' afterall.

But when it comes to being a 'ruler' then I can list many who surpassed Alexander.

1.Chandragupta Maurya
2.Ashoka The Great
3.Samudragupta
4.Akbar The Great
5.Augustus Caesar aka Octavian
6.Qin Shi Huang aka First Emperor Of China

These figure were certainly more effective as rulers than Alexander.

But yes what he achieved in such a short span of time is remarkable to the core and this is why his name is remembered in history.Infact Porus himself is known to the world because of Alexander.

Did they actually say that Alexander was the grahan of the West? Of the West or from the West?
What a stupid thing to say! When was this promo shown?

Everything you have said about Alexander is true. Today, he was in rip roaring form, the rock hard self confidence shining thru the seeti maar lines that he delivered with such panache.

But Genghis Khan universally popular? He was called the Scourge of God, you know, and he was universally feared. Not liked.

I would not enter Alexander in the "great ruler" .stakes at all. When did he have the time to settle down and start ruling? He was still planning to conquer Arabia when he died. We can judge him as a ruler only after he had stabilised his empire, and he never got there. Who knows how high he might have risen if he had, like Akbar, lived past three score years?

Of our great rulers, Chandragupta always had Chanakya's unrivaled statecraft behind him. Alexander had to fend for himself, for Aristotle was no longer a part of his life after he turned 16.

. Asoka inherited most of his empire, and he was a very harsh ruler till the Kalinga epiphany. Samudragupta, Akbar, were great rulers, as was Augustus Caesar; I don't know much about the Chinese emperor.

What is striking is the vision that Alexander had, of not just melding the Persian and Macedonian cultures, but of bringing together all the variegated peoples of the lands he had conquered. In this he was like Akbar.

This leaves Napoleon. The parallel isn't exact, but the rapidity with which he conquered most of Europe and Egypt reminds one of Alexander. Even during his all too brief reign, Napoleon proved himself as an excellent administrator, if not a superb ruler. The Code Napoleon is still the basis of the French legal system. But Napoleon never knew where to stop, alas, and he self destructed.
